I also like this UIC team. I "liked" them last year too, meaning I hated playing them.
Not knocking anything….but last years UIC team has nothing to do with this years team….its like SIU. Totally different regime.
I do like UIC coaching hire and direction….but nobody can honestly say “ I saw this coming last year.”
You're right.
It would probably have been better if I had said they had a coach who knew what he was doing.
(Inflammatory political snark)
I hope Moreno gets more minutes in the future. He had a couple of very nice moves today.

Nice SIU fan turnout yesterday at UIC, especially considering it’s been a disappointing season. A very entertaining battle, even with a ton of late game stoppages taking away from the flow.
Agree with others that Mayo’s save was stirring stuff, and then LOVE Kennard taking it strong to the rim out of that timeout. It was probably the best team win of the season considering the multiple contributions from role players and bench guys to go with big offensive outputs from Dibba and Davis.
Overall, a great win. They do, though, need to do a better job keeping slashing guards like Mason out of the lane if they are going to do any better in the back half of the Valley slate.
Still cannot get over that save by Mayo. Play of the season in my book.
Mayo probably had the two most important plays of the game, the save and then getting the stop on defense the next play.
He’s certainly found his role on this team. He doesn’t have to score a ton to have a big impact on the game.
A road win. Can’t complain too much about it. Should beat Valpo.
Valpo is a tough team and at a place we seem to struggle at. Only get them once this year so could be a big game in terms of seeding
Unless I'm mis-reading the schedule (always a possibility), we actually do play Valpo twice this season. The second game is Feb. 22 at home.
Our one-and-dones are Drake (this Saturday at Banterra) and Indiana State on the road in the final regular-season game March 2.
Completely random comment, but has anyone else noticed Drew Steffe’s dad and the Dawgs podcast getting after each other on Twitter?
This team has shown so much growth in the past two weeks. You can see a toughness starting to show, there's no giving up! I realize each player has to make a decision about showing up and giving 100%, but you have to tip your hat to this coaching staff! Really like watching them play!
Each player seems to be finding their role, and you can see (on occasion), the staff has drawn up an offense that at least is trying to put certain players in certain positions on the floor that fit their offensive skill set.
Lastly,
Mayo is truly "floorburn U".
Steffe is starting to find a way to help this team every game. I wasn't initially sold on him, but you can see his confidence is building.
Sharp had 6 assists last night and his confidence is also moving in the right direction.
Looking forward, would like to see Steffe and Sharp hit the weight room in the off season, get stronger and put on 10 lbs of muscle.
Go Dawgs!!!
Yeah, I saw it. It must have been Mr. Steffe who was ejected courtside toward the end of the game. The Dawgs podcast made a sly remark, something to the effect of he who shall remain nameless got ejected. Mr. Steffe didn't like the comment and reacted. Not sure why the Dawgs podcast would want to throw shade toward a players father. I like that a players father has enough passion to get tossed!Completely random comment, but has anyone else noticed Drew Steffe’s dad and the Dawgs podcast getting after each other on Twitter?
@resaluki-88…goes back longer than just this game. He wasn’t happy with their coverage during the start of conference play either. Not ideal to have player parents getting chippy, but I guess that’s life in the age of social media.

that was the greatest thing I have ever seen. right up there with secretariat winning the belmont and meg ryan at that restaurant.

To be fair I also do not enjoy their coverage of the team

It appeared to me Mr. Steffe got into with fans sitting behind him, whom were upset with him standing up a bunch of times. Mr Steffe is at most home games and this is common of him when in attendance. It looked like most fans sitting behind him were UIC fans and on the older side and didn’t like him blocking their view. If it happened as it appeared, I do not blame him one bit.
If you watch the replay of the game it happens…I believe during the Mayo play. Court side/camera side bottom of the screen.
Watched the replay of the game today. What a gritty, hard-fought win for the Dawgs. I felt like the breaks for both teams evened out. Moreno actually did some good things. Kennard & Dibba were studs again.
Question: Does anyone know what Mayo did to get the technical?
