Valpo has lost 5 in a row.  With Drake coming to Carbondale on Saturday, it would be really nice to take this one and win 5 of our last 6 heading into that game.

It's been noted that we usually struggle at Valparaiso, and it reminded me that I was in the crowd a few days after Christmas in 1980 when SIU was fortunate to win a nonconference game there. Many SIU fans were unhappy that it was a home-and-home series against Valpo, which was in just its third season in Division I, and that we had to play at Valpo's "arena," which was even more high-schoolish than the current one. Neither team was very good, and the game went down to the wire. Valpo did have a tough, aggressive point guard who had played for Gordon Tech in the Chicago Catholic League, and he obliterated Rob Kirsner, who allegedly was Joe Gottfried's "prize" recruit that season. I don't remember exactly how it ended -- Valpo might have missed a potential game-winner at the buzzer -- but according to the record book, we won 60-59. It was a significant victory because it was SIU's last one of the season before the infamous 18-game losing streak began.

We've actually won 3 in a row at Valpo, the games just are always close there.  I have bad memories of scoring 38 points there in 2019

I would love see Moreno get more minutes tonight. Thought he played really well at UIC.

I fully concur on Moreno.

You scored 38 points at Valpo in 2019? Perhaps you should be playing in the G-League! That would certainly be a good memory for me. LOL...

@siu-alum-05 All depends on matchups. Mr. Moreno had the advantage vs UIC. Not sure about Valpo. We shall find out soon enough!

Schwieger is their best player at 6-10 but not much of a bruiser.  He’s taken 59 3’s.  Probably not a great matchup for Moreno.

All Wright might win MVC Freshman of the Year this year.  Probably would have been a Saluki if they kept Mullins

SIU is playing hard and Davis is off to a good start, but Valpo is knocking down 3’s.

Salukis need to keep attacking the basket, they have a huge advantage there and shots aren't falling right now
