In my opinion Ebube brings a factor to the floor that doesn’t show up in the stats. Just his presence around the paint causes opposing players to miss shots they normally make. He is obviously a big person, and he looks so menacing I think he gets into the heads of the opposition. It happens a lot.

Every game is Floorburn U + Heartburn U + Headburn U. 🤪  Nonetheless, congrats on a 20 win season goes out to Mullins and the team.

Ebube averages 4 points and 2 rebounds per game.

Thats pretty darn good considering he plays 4 minutes a game.

38 points, 21 rebounds in 42 minutes of action this season.

There is a lot of upside there. Here's hoping he and the coaches can bring it out together and that he stays in Carbondale for the long-run, because he'll be a lot of fun.

@kyle_saluki_17 it's unorthodox looking but he's not flipping the bird while he shoots or anything

There are things much worse than "flipping the bird" and a JD Muila free-throw is one of them.

It should at least be rated PG-13. You don't want young, impressionable minds seeing that hot garbage, entertaining as it may be.

Muila's free throw shooting is a real late-game puzzle for Mullins to deal with. A lot of times what gets you beat in the last minute or two is giving up an untimely offensive rebound putback basket, and Muila is SIU's most physical/reliable rebounder, so it's hard to have him out in crunch time. But, the FT dilemma is very real. Valley coaches will be all over the hack-a-Muila strategy in any close games these final games of the season and at Arch Madness.

No ideal solutions here. Rupert is not as good of a rebounder as Muila and is a mediocre FT shooter himself (though much better than Muila). Ebube is being babied with minutes and I don't think he'll be in with the game on the line (and stop me if you've heard this, is not a good FT shooter). I guess they will just try to go offense-defense with subbing as much as they can and hope that they don't get burned in a big moment.

Agreed, for the most part I think SIU did a really good job of keeping the ball out of his hands.  Krikke was trying to grab on him, fortunate they didn't call any of them.  It is actually incredible how bad he is at FTs... You know he works on them, you know he has forever, some people just cannot do it.

I don't feel like Ebube is being babied, I just think trust is earned and it was really hard to earn trust in February games when he didn't play for 6 plus weeks.  Coaches play players they trust.

@bleedfknmaroon25 Shooting free throws is pretty simple.  A golfer once told  me to cut out all excessive movements to limit what can go wrong with your shot.  the same is true with free throws.  Muila's double knee bends and bringing the ball way behind his head are all unnecessary.  Watch most of the good shooters; balanced, the ball stays in front of them with a slight flex of the knees and a lift with the elbow and a flip of the wrist/fingers.  You would think they could make him at least shoot it with just the basics

I'm gonna miss the JD Muila free throw lane violation whenever he's gone

Unquestionably he leads the whole country in lane violations created

I would love to see a highlight reel of all of these with some cool music. also im afraid to make a drinking game of it when they happen. it is truly one of the most odd and entertaining things when watching this team and i certainly laugh far too much every time he causes a violation. also ive never seen someone miss the rim completely and slam it off the backboard more.  reminds me of along came polly when phillip seymour hoffman shoots the raindrop

If he ever had any hope of being at least a 50% free throw shooter, he'd have to strip everything down to the very beginning and rebuild his mechanics from the basement up. There's not anywhere near enough time left in his playing career for him to do that. He literally does everything wrong. I've never seen anything like it.

If I were the other team, I'd never allow Muila a gimme 2 points anywhere within 5 feet of the cup. I'd hammer him every time he caught it. Even if the foul is intentional, statistical chances are you'll still come out ahead in that exchange vs giving him a layup.

a possibility; perhaps he plays a lot in hopes that does happen and thus get marcus in the bonus

If someone wants to learn how to shoot a free throw, they should watch Marcus.
