Trent Brown with the great defensive play

It was certainly a timely one, but I’m not sure about “great.”  The ball handler got the ball stuck behind him (after blowing by Trent off the dribble).  It was there for the taking and all Trent had to do was grab it.  I’m definitely glad he did, though.

The bigger picture for me was Foster Wonders scored twice as many points in 3 minutes as Trent did in 30. No offense to Trent, who seems like a great kid and a hard worker.  But there’s no way he should be starting over Foster (who adds scoring) or Newton (who adds rebounding & defense).

D’Amico starting at the 5 over Cade & Rupert is mind-boggling, as well.

That was a really nice win over a good team.  And an enjoyable, hard-fought game to watch.  I felt like win-or-lose the Salukis gained some valuable experience from this tourney and the two teams they played.

D Amico’s stat line he Played 45 minutes he had 3 points and 3 boards  0 TO and 0 assist. So we as fans must be missing something IF Mullins is playing him at the 5 for that many minutes with those stats .

D'Amico only played 20 minutes and some of those minutes were at the 4. The ESPN box score is way off. The correct box score is on siusalukis.com. You can look it up under the schedule page. However, I do agree D'Amico should not be playing at the 5. I do like him at the 4 though, along with Rupert who can play both the 4 and 5.

If you watch, and really pay attention to, him on the defensive side of the ball, you'd see why he isn't starting and has sat out multiple games.  I'm not saying he can't, or won't, improve but he is not near the level that the coaching staff demands.

That being said, as much as I love Brown (he is the ultimate team guy), his lack of offense must be addressed.  Unfortunately, at least to this point, Newton has been one of my biggest disappointments due to his lack of scoring (how did he lead his team last year?) along with XJ.  I don't mind Brown in the starting lineup, but when he's paired with 2 other non-scorers, such as D-Amico and Johnson, it puts the team in a tough spot as they are relying on Jones and Domask for a vast majority of the scoring.

Hopefully Cade and Wonders can catch up on the defensive side of things and make bigger impacts as the season goes on.  My concern is that Foster has been in the program for well over a year so he just might never be at the level that is required.  The good news is that outside of the St Louis game, which could be ugly, the schedule sets up nicely for a lot more playing time for Foster, Cade, etc and hopefully that can get them ready for the meaty part of the MVC.

@resaluki-88 I didn’t watch the whole game fell asleep was very surprised 😮 when I saw the box score. That makes a lot more sense however still not sold on D Amico and why he is playing the 5 and starting.  I just need to lower my expectations .

Does anyone know where I can find the replay?  This game and the UNLV games aren’t showing up in my Hulu/ESPN apps.

Game was on CBS Sports Network and they don't archive games unfortunately.

You might check Paramount+ since that is CBS's streaming service.

I’m willing to bet the SLU game is a lot closer than anybody thinks. If shots are falling this team can beat anybody

big if though

It has to be more than the Marcus Damask show.  Others on this team have to step up and contribute on a consistent basis.....especially on offense.

I'd wager the SLU game will be close. We know our defense is gonna show up, but will our offense join the party? I believe the USI mishap was an anomaly.

I do believe the poster who said SLU will win easily, also stated that the Saluki football squad would lose handily to the Northwestern Mildcats. Not very accurate on his predictions, so perhaps he should stop.

Defense travels. If shots don't fall, your defense can carry you. Stay close throughout the game, and give yourself a chance to win at the end!

GO DAWGS!!!

When everyone is healthy I would like to see a starting lineup as:

C-Ebube

PF-Rupert

SF/W-Domask

SG-Jones

PG-Banks

And to rotate, Ebube/Hornecker, Rupert/D'Amico, Domask/Wonders/Ferguson, Jones/Brown/Wonders, Banks/Johnson.

Maybe break away from a pure motion and do more set plays through a high post which I think would suit Ebube/Hornecker well.

I'd be pretty surprised if Saint Louis blows SIU out.  One of the positives of the Mullins' era so far is there's not a lack of effort in any games and they're competitive against teams better than them.  Even the Southern Indiana game they didn't stop fighting at any point, it just got away from them late.
