Truly a team effort tonight, to be boring and cliche. Unselfish play, good D and a nice mix on offense. A bit of momentum, hopefully, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Brown returns at Tulsa.
@siudawgs Is this a hunch or do you know something?
Has anybody else heard the rumor/belief Brown will be going back to Arizona next year ? I was told that at the game last night, no inside information from me at all. It reminds me a little of the Cook situation, if true.
Up 9 at the half and Domask with a goose egg? Wouldn't have thunk that.
There has been several games this year where he has had 0 or very few points in the 1st half and puts in his share in the 2nd half. Also I can think of at least 3 games now where Coupet gets most of his points very early in the game and then can't hit in the 2nd half. Maybe now a bad combinationj
Domask passed up some 10-12 footers to try to get the ball inside or passed out to someone for a 3. (Croupet did it a couple times, also). It bugs me because I still remember Creighton beating us several times on those shoots. That being said, the entire team played excellent defense. The D's were outstanding, Banks and Verplanken really hustled. Disappointed in Muila; 2 rebounds, 0 points. Al McGuire used to call players with his build aircraft carriers. Well this ship didn't leave port last night.

Muila played outstanding defense last night. He had 2 steals. Stats can be deceiving. He's never going to be a big scorer. Muila is averaging 4.3 rebounds in less than 17 minutes a game for the season. That would be about 8 rebounds a game with a full 30 minutes of playing time. With us rotating 3 centers you are not going to see big numbers from any of them. We got a combined 14 points and 9 rebounds from the center position last night, which is not too shabby.

I don’t think so but I will ask around

I also thought Muila was solid on D, and he avoided dumb fouls until the refs decided to take control of the game by calling ticky-tacky stuff. He was OK, and he fills up a lot of space, denying passing lanes. I'm a bit disappointed--though not surprised, really--in his rebounding, but he's learning.
Filewich had three baskets last night; some (or maybe just one person) wrote off the two after his dunk as "garbage minutes" points. That is not the case, though I suppose we all might have differing definitions of "garbage minutes." He scored both of those (post-dunk) baskets while the game was still being contested; there were no scrubs in. The first was at 3+ minutes. Come on: you're just LOOKING for stuff, and I kind of get it: he is a bit (or a lot) ungainly, but don't take those away from him.
D'Amico is a Rick Shipley/Matt Shaw in the making; he particularly reminds me of the former. Twenty years ago, he would have redshirted, bulked up, and been another Falker inside, except with better hands. Love this kid. I kept waiting for him to get burned on D, but it kept not happening. Hard to explain, but he just never looked lost out there. The kid belongs, period. I don't think he will be lighting up stat sheets anytime soon, but if you were there, you would see how mature he is. There is a reason he is playing--let's just leave it there.
We were lucky that their #11 (Moore) sat out the whole second half after his T. Not sure what that was all about--maybe some discipline thing? Anyway, that was cool: that guy could light it up, and he was giving us trouble in the first half.
Can't say enough about what seemed like a weird rotation at the time: Banks, D'Avanzo, and D'Amico replaced Jones, Domask, and Muila and held their own--more than held their own. D'Avanzo is never going to be a banger, but he looked really refined in there. We are lucky to have him this year.
Work in progress, but I like the progress part compared to the Alcorn State game.
(Inflammatory political snark)

Where would he play? Grand Canyon? I can totally see that as they have one of the best home court advantages in all of college basketball. That being said, I hope it's not true. He made so much progress from Year 1 to Year 2, I'm anxious as heck to see if he has made similar improvements over last year. I wonder, however, if he won't need 3, 4,5+ games to even get back into the flow after not having played basketball the last few weeks.
Banks is getting better - needs more offense. Davanzo made some nice points around the rim last night. Filewich played much better than previously - all his buckets were contested, demonstrative in your face points. Like to see Muila work on that offense.
Banks played, in my opinion his best game of his career Sat night. That said , he needs to keep making progress. He is not a great point guard at this point, again, in my opinion... but he definitely is improving. We need a great point guard and Im hopeful Banks can get there. Kyler will be fine, he has certain limitations but his offensive skill level inside is better than the other two. His liability at this point on D is his biggest problem. Im glad we have him and glad we have him for 3 more years if he chooses.

It seems to me his offense is Ok----12 assists in the last 83 minutes on the court is not shabby. He regularly finds the open/moving teammate after penetrating

Banks is 2nd on the team in assist rate behind Domask and 444th in the country (19.6%, Domask is 305th at 22.4%)
Thanks World. Marcus does it all of course. I have no idea how those rates are calculated, but I suspect national rankings are influenced by a team's style of play--more assists when teams put up more shots.

It's calculated by taking the player's assists and dividing it by the number of field goals made by the player's teammates while they're on the court
I am so tired of analytics adjusted efficiency and crazy statistics you can play or you can't I am old school guy points rebounds assists play defense that is how you win just my opinion
