I just dialed this one up:
https://siusalukis.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/stevan-jeremic/4299
This page lists Jeremic as a 'Junior'.
As far as Jeremic's eligibility is/was concerned...(and to borrow TN Sen. Howard Baker's Watergate committee line)...
What did SIU's MBB staff know about Jeremic's future eligibility, and when did they know it?
(1) US COVID-19 statistics (February 29, 2020-June 16, 2020): 2,124,000 reported cases and 115,052 deaths
(2) Donald Trump (June 15, 2020) told a group of senior citizens that there would be very few cases of COVID-19 if the US stopped its testing and contact tracing: "If we stop testing right now, we'd have very few cases, actually."
(3) Donald Trump [(Jan 20, 2020), when asked if he's worried about a pandemic]: “No. Not at all. And we have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s — going to be just fine.”
Nobody's concern is true, Ha! For conversation's sake, Jeremic was an academic Junior for his year at SIU. It just appears his 5 year D1 clock ran out before he was a Senior. That is why I believe he will transfer to D3 where he would still have a 4th year of eligibility left.
@dr222 My question remains.
Seems like I'm Tom Cruise ("I want the truth") and others are Jack Nicholson ("You can't handle the truth")!
This is a fan board. Facts are good. Facts are truth. I want the truth. And I can handle the truth.
When you look at SIU's football roster, both 'Class' and 'Year' are listed for each player.
The same is true for SIU's basketball roster at some sites (with 'Eligibility' in place of 'Year' for some).

...my question remains valid.

Sorry Tom, (@1987sauki), I didn't mean to invalidate your question. Nor did I mean to blow a smoke screen at you as part of some conspiracy. None of us directed Kiefer Sutherland to order Wolfgang Bodison and James Marshall to "CODE RED" Micheal DeLorenzo!

I believe the answer is still very simple.. I am sure there was no intent by the SIU Athletic Department to misrepresent any part of Jeremic's eligibility. Jeremic was an NCAA Academic Junior (3rd year), and he was a Junior (3rd year) of NCAA eligibility. I believe that at his age, and the number of years after his high school graduation, he was not going to get a Senior year of NCAA Division 1 eligibility at any Division 1 school. I believe that by NCAA rules he could have a 4th year of NCAA eligibility at an NCAA Division 3 school if he so desires it. We will see if his name ever hits the Transfer Portal, it hasn't so far. If his name never appears in the portal, he has no eligibility left to transfer for. It is pretty telling that in Hefferman's tweet about Jeremic, He states that "..Jeremic will not return for his final season" doesn't say anything about him entering the Transfer Portal.

The fact is, If Jeremic doesn't get picked up by a D3 school, he will probably be able to play pro ball in Europe. Thanks to Bryan and SIU, he has a year of NCAA Division 1 participation to add to his resume for a pro career in Europe. That one year of NCAA Division 1 basketball for Jeremic will go a long way to help him make a European roster. So in this case, Jeremic now has NCAA Division 1 on his resume, and SIU got a 6'11" player that provided a scout team opponent to push Benson during practice. Jeremic was also able to come off the bench at times to play some minutes to either give Benson a blow, or hold down the 5 spot due to Benson's foul trouble. Jeremic's one year presence on the roster was a win-win situation for both SIU and Jeremic.
