Marcus Domask postgame:
SIU is now 9th in the country in 3 point attempts/field goal attempts (50.9%) but just 237th in the country in 3 point % (29.5%).
That is a very telling stat.
@rockin-dawg We are a great 3-pt shooting team, just not a 3-pt making team.
Domask and Jones are better 3 point shooters than they've been so that will naturally improve. Not sure if there's much improvement coming from anyone else though. Brown has been here 4 years and had one season where he shot 37.7% from 3 but hasn't gotten close to that since.
Bryan Mullins, Cade Hornecker, Marcus Domask with the media:
This win was a direct result of great defense. We shot very poorly again, but defense is this teams identity. Tennessee State is a high scoring team and we held them to 44 points. If shots start falling we will be in good shape. Our elite defense will keep us in most games.
I was glad to see that Cade has such a sweet looking shot from the charity stripe. Maybe he can give J.D. some tips. 😎Another eye-gouging stat here:
SIU's last basket of the game was at the 10:53 mark to go up by 13, so for the final 10+ minutes of the game, SIU shot 0-8 with 11 turnovers... and the lead was still at 13 points when this thing ended, thanks to SIU going 11 of 12 from the FT line.
After USI, this team just needed a win; sure a 20 or 30 point win would have been nice, but step one is just getting that USI game behind everyone. Some thoughts:
- This team really is fast; the first half really showed our overall speed since our offense was focused on driving and cutting - how many layups did we have between Lance and Dalton?
- Lance: literally, no one could guard him on the court last night; the guy is a blur, and if he focused on driving and getting to the hoop and not relying on the 3 he is an absolute 1st team or POY candidate.
- Marcus: great game, but would love to see the coaching staff tweak his approach on offense a bit to rely more on coming off screens for shots rather than posting up.
- Cade: did we all fall out of our chairs when we saw him come in during the first half? Very interesting showing from Cade, and most noticeably to me is how you could see how he affected so many of TSU's shots - or looks even - down low. If Cade can get string some playing time together while others are out on injury, we have a chance to have a really really deep front court.
Bring on UNLV.
Moving the ball around the perimeter until the shot clock gets to five and then expecting someone to be wide open is excruciatingly hard to watch.
Domask must need the experience of being up 15 late in the game?
That should have been 10 minutes of Banks running the point with Wonders, Ferguson, Rupert and Cade.
well, we almost got to 80.of course, the bobber doesn't really understand how this betting thing works, but if he did, he would lay the points tonight. i expect the mighty salukis to lay 80 on them.
Your definition of almost is interesting, but if we had hit anything close to a normal percentage of our 3s then you certainly had a chance to get there.well, we almost got to 80.of course, the bobber doesn't really understand how this betting thing works, but if he did, he would lay the points tonight. i expect the mighty salukis to lay 80 on them.
For all of the people that think we should've got out bench more experience last night, keep in mind, we were down around 10 points to OSU with around 10 minutes to go. The second half last night we were consistently up 10-13 points. That is only a couple of buckets from being a 2 possession game. I personally wanted to see more Cade and Foster myself, but I get it. Also, it seemed as if Cade was specifically in to get matched up with a certain player in his brief stint in the second half. I saw when Tennessee State made a sub, instantly the SIU assistant coaches got Bryan's attention to get Cade out.
I apologize for my snarky remark.@dawgbytes Thanks for making me feel irrelevant. It's the nicest thing someone has done for me today. 😁
