I am encouraged by the signs we are seeing such as even the southern questioning him, but I just can’t truly feel confident this will be it.  I don’t know what sort of full court charm press Hinson is putting on behind the scenes and I don’t know if I trust you know who of boosters to honor any agreements he made about expectations

Oh, and Tommy Bell tried to do the right thing but was blocked by boosters who paid a lot of $$$ to have access and be Friends of the Program.  It's a status thing for these boosters, just ask them.

Status is worth more when half of the community doesn't despise you. That's why I can't quite figure out why he/they would stand by this guy. Afraid to admit that you made a mistake?

At least PT had four NIT appearances at SMS. He hasn't been anywhere close to one here.

Craving a McBride Special!

Interesting to see Les stick his head out of his shell. Pretty big to see the Illusion dip their collective toes in the water. Barry is lousy under pressure and this will end poorly.

Thanks Barry for bailing out the program. It's time to turn over the reins to someone who can take us to the next level.

Back in April-May, I had sent an email about an article Les had written about Hinson and the Salukis. He would not see my side of the argument and was balls deep protecting BBQ Cheeto Leader (Hinson). Maybe now he is starting to get it. Just maybe!

It's really too bad when a member of the media, that has visibility to more than the average fan, isn't drawing appropriate conclusions.  The writing has been on the wall for a long time.  It's really to bad it's taken this long for the Southern Illinoisan to show some stones and do some actual reporting.

Attendance would double if they fired him now.   Save the season can his ass

I believe you're right.  Attendance would double if they dumped Hinson now and let one of the assistants take over for the remainder of the season.

Hopefully SIU is starting to put out some feelers and gauge interest in their pending opening.  I think it's important to conduct a national search, but to also move relatively quick when the time comes.  My hope is the new coach will convince some of the signees for next season to honor their commitment to SIU.

Like most on here, I want Hinson out of here sooner than later. (I'd like to see Coach Beane take over for the rest of the season.) This team has some talent and there's really no excuse for that crap record.  (By the way I don't blame All of it on Hinson - just most of it. The last three games, even with the crap coaching,  could have been wins with a little better FT shooting.  Great FT shooters practice incessantly ... Larry Bird, Rick Barry, Steve Nash, Dickhead Ahearn)

I'm not nearly as convinced as others that Hinson will get the axe after the season.  (unless the team's collapse continues and they end up with a 4 - 14 conference record)

I don't think Winkie (I'd rather be bird watching) or Heff have any clout at all!

+1 We may as well hire Beane as HC.

people may not care what he thinks but having Les and Heff call into question the job he is doing and his job security certainly makes firing him at the end of the year an easier proposition.

You can be sure (for manifold reasons) that Jerry Kill took note of the following MBB score (Jan 22):

NIU defeated (14th-ranked) Buffalo on a last-second shot, 77-75

My eyes tell me that Buffalo, this year, has a squad so superior to Hinson's SIU team that it is hard to see any of this year's Salukis starting for Buffalo.

Of course it is a tough comparison to make because Buffalo's coach demands that his team plays fast (ruling out Pippen), while Hinson no doubt voted against the 30-second shot clock rule.

A few posters on this board have hammered home a worthy point, though: there are players on this year's SIU squad who can play fast (including Lloyd)--but that is not Hinson's style, who, like the majority of his brethren (especially in the midwest), prefers low-scoring, defensive games.

(1) US COVID-19 statistics (February 29, 2020-June 16, 2020): 2,124,000 reported cases and 115,052 deaths
(2) Donald Trump (June 15, 2020) told a group of senior citizens that there would be very few cases of COVID-19 if the US stopped its testing and contact tracing: "If we stop testing right now, we'd have very few cases, actually."
(3) Donald Trump [(Jan 20, 2020), when asked if he's worried about a pandemic]: “No. Not at all. And we have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s — going to be just fine.”

Hinson stuck to an experimental hybrid offense that doesn't work at the Division-1 level.  He hasn't adjusted to the league like it adjusted to him.

How so?  You are WAY overestimating the influence that Wes and the Lump have.  Outdoors is Wes's real agenda, the Lump knows very little about the games he covers.

the SI could have the best writers in the industry and it wouldn't matter. the university administration isn't going to be reading the paper in the morning to figure out what to do. its good that Heff was out in front of this. it doesn't hurt but it doesn't matter.

Its not about the influence they have on the decisions.  making it public puts everyone on notice that if this does not get corrected its going to be the end.  it prepares people for what is coming, making the job of Kill a lot easier to let him go.

Mike Reis just posted the pre-game interview with Hinson prior to tonight's game. They talk mostly about pressure for the team to succeed and Hinson seemed pretty upfront about how he feels like they have under performed and they should have made a post season by now. Also, mentioned that this team, he feels, is more talented than any he's had at Missouri State. Interesting listen.
