This was disgusting. But hey, we’re 11-4 and still tied for first. On a bright spot, we’ve wasted 2 of our complete shit games at home against the worst two teams and came out 2-0 in them.

Also a mind blowing stat. UIC had 23 more shots than us because of all of the turnovers and we still won.

I think we will show up ready for Drake. It’ll be a new day and they know they need to be better.

This to me is kind of the epitome of what it is to coach 18-22 year olds.  They got up big and got really sloppy.  Luckily it didn't cost them but it's not always the worst thing in the world to get a little wake up call while still winning... Last time this happened we went to Springfield and played one of our better games.  This time of the year we just take the win and move on.  Drake was lucky to beat Valpo earlier this week, Bradley was lucky to beat ILL ST at home a few weeks ago, doesn't really matter. W. onto the next one.

Plenty of floor seats left for the game at UIC 2/26. I'm going to pony up, it's been a few years since I've seen the Dawgs in person since I live in Wisconsin.

Is it too late to swap UW Milwaukee for Murray St?

i don't understand the tie-breaker for 1st place going to Drake currently. We've all 3 played each other 1 x each and we're all 1-1 against each other. What gives Drake the edge? #confusedinSTL - thanks for whomever can answer this question.

Actually, those standings don't reflect the tie breaker correctly. If the season ended today Bradley would be 1st, Drake would be 2nd and we would be 3rd. Since all three teams are 1-1 in the round robin it would go to the next tiebreaker which is the NET ranking. Bradley has the best NET, followed by Drake, then us.

Here is the tiebreaker info on the mvc website:

https://mvc-sports.com/news/2018/12/18/arch-madness-revises-tiebreaker.aspx

There's a tiebreaker after head to head though (or record vs the top 3 teams).  I just don't want to hurt my brain trying to figure it out.

SIU will be boned in any NET tiebreaker though because of games like this.  They would even lose a NET tiebreaker to Indiana State right now if that mattered.

The 2nd tiebreaker if combined round robin record doesn't break the initial tiebreaker is the NET ranking the day after the regular season is completed. It's very simple and on the link I attached under "multiple ties". It simply boils down to us needing to probably win both games against Drake & Bradley. We will not have a higher NET rating than either of those teams so if we split the games against Drake and Bradley we will end up 2-2 in the round robin, which isn't going to cut it. If there is a 4 way tie including Belmont we would have a better chance at winning the round robin as we are 1-0 against Belmont. If we split the Drake & Bradley games we have to win the rest of our games and hope they get upset in one of their final games so we can finish 1st outright. We can't lose 2 games of the final 5 and have any chance of winning the league. 4-1 gives us a chance, 5-0 we win the league outright. 3-2 we probably finish 3rd or 4th. 2-3 or worse and we finish 5th.

Random thoughts.

Lance Jones is last on the team 3 point percentage at 28.1%, not counting those that haven't made a 3. 14th in the nation in attempts, that's a lot of misses. FG% at 37.1% almost the worst on the team. How far we go rest of the season depends on him getting better.

Lance reminds me a lot of Ben Gordon, could get on fire to ice cold in an instant.

FG% for Ebube 72.2%, Rupert 65.3%, and Mulia 62.2% combine to have some of the best shot percentage in the country.

Shoot more inside, shoot less outside, decrease turnovers, ?????, profit.

Lance got to the rim multiple times in the first half and then took 3's the rest of the game.  Just feels like poor coaching to not have him keep attacking the rim until they stop him.

Jones is one of the best Saluki defenders in the history SIU basketball, but it is amazing that he continues to jack up those 3s. (203 attempted and making only 28%). Hard to believe he lead the MVC in 3pt % as a soph, hitting over 40%. Regardless, it seems like Mullins has given him the green light, so hopefully Lance can catch fire these last 5 games.

I would be curious to know what the stats are when Lance drives to the basket.

It seems like he frequently gets airborne and then fires up a missed layup and rarely gets a foul called.

He is a stud defensively.

Lance Jones can shoot either team out of the game.

Is it too late to swap UW Milwaukee for Murray St?

I'm good with that.  Milwaukee wouldn't be dragging down the NET quite as much as Murray.  It's great that we unloaded Loyola, though.  Chicago State is about to pass them in the NET.  Yes, Chicago State. 🤣 🤣

His percentage on drives is quite high actually. You can't expect a 6' 1" guard to make every layup among the trees. Domask doesn't either. Lance needs to do a lot more of that.

Excluding threes, Lance is shooting 51%  - I'll take that!

Checked the MVC stats - they're wrong. Domask leads the league in FT % - correct, but both XJ (80.4%) and LJ (76.8%) should be listed in the top 10 and aren't. Domask is 4th in FG %. Lance leads the league in steals.

BS! Milwaukee has a history of sucking, and that will continue with a few anomalies.

The league made the right choices.

Murray, love them or hate them, will be a force in this league. They have some talent and Prohm knows what he's doing, even if he is a jerk, as he proved last time at SIU.

Unquestionably! If he could just show a little better judgement on taking threes, he'd be even better. Love his motor, love his acrobatic drives to the basket, love his D, love his attitude. Great kid!
