What a game and what a freshman season for Domask.

Suggs fought hard for some of those rebounds.

Valpo really scuffled, especially from the FT line, but nice to get to 2-1, and a Childs-less BU awaits.

I’m thinking this Saturday might be do-or-die in terms of Cook coming back this year.

Well, now we're currently in a 3-way tie for 2nd in the MVC, which could be a 5-way tie for first if Drake holds home court.  (The game is in the 2nd on CBSSN if you're interested).

Domask is 21st in the country now in true shooting %.  Evansville's DeAndre Williams is #1 in the country.

Domask is also 38th in the country in effective field goal %, 95th in the country in 2 point % and 136th in the country in 3 point %.

Weird-Azz Stat Dept:  Thru 3 games in Valley play, we're the only team with 3 decisions by double digits (neither BU nor EV can match this tomorrow).

Last season after 16 games: 9-7

This season after 16 games: 8-8

Last year's team had the 7th most experience in the nation.

This year's team is #256 in experience.

Draw your own conclusion.

21st in the country but the 5th best Freshmen !!!   The Dawgs are still going to struggle on the road, especially if Cook doesn't come back.  But the future remains very bright.  The key will be what kind of BIGS Mullins can get to replace Benson.  With Domask and Harvey starting on the wings and Lance and Davis? starting at guard, this team is going to do some damage in the valley next season, mark my words if they can just get some talented player(s) down low.

Always hard for mid majors to get good big men.  When they do they are usually undersized at like 6-6 or 6-7.

Indeed.  I think there WILL be talented players that look at what this team has (the large # of minutes that Fr play) and say to themselves, I can come in and not only play a lot of minutes, but make a huge impact and, most importantly, win a lot of games and possibly go to the NCAA tournament.

Yes, it can be difficult, but if you look around the league right now, there are several quality bigs (Krutwig, Prim, Phyfe, Robbins, LaRavia, etc.). And Benson is doing pretty well himself ... we just need two of him. 😀

And as far as height, you can certainly win with quality 6-6/6-7 frontcourt guys if they are rugged enough ... look at Childs at Bradley, and SIU's past with Falker and Roberts.

I totally agree.   I will add this though, while Benson has been MUCH better on offense than I anticipated, he does not fit in well with Mullins defensive strategy.  He was the best fit at the time of need.  I envision a slightly shorter, but much stronger and athletic "big" down low next year.  Similar, as you mentioned, to Roberts or Falker.

There was an interesting postgame radio interview last night with Reis/Starrick and Domask, in which they talked about Domask's disciplined shot selection and how he hardly ever forces bad shots. In general, that's terrific, although there's always a fine line for great players about taking what the defense gives you but also finding a way to score and impact the game even when the defense focuses heavily on you.

I'm looking forward to Domask being surrounded by more quality scoring options in future seasons so the Salukis are better equipped to put more stress on opponents' defense and make them pay for devoting too much attention to Domask.
