SIU is 6-7 at home this year, not a good way to build a fanbase. Been 17 uncompetitive years in a row, eventually fans are gonna find better things to do. 2000's nostalgia in Southern Illinois won't last forever.
Actually 6-8 according to the guys on the radio. We've clinched a losing home schedule. Not a great way to get fans back in the stands.
I’ve been puzzled by our coach seemingly being bothered to do post-game interviews.
Like it or not, the SIU head hoops position is a coaching job AND a PR job. People see how you treat others and how you act. When you mope around and get defensive it’s a bad look.
You can’t let those two losses without Mayo dictate your season. You can’t let those losses spiral into a season-ending losing streak. Somebody has to step up and make this respectable. If this season ends without another win, that’s on the staff.
As far as expectations, I’m not sure who looked at this roster without Elliott and thought they’d win even 7 conference games. I think Nagy showed he can coach. We just need more to build off of.
Bow Em
I have seen this movie before.
really hard to watch
I left after Sharp dribbled into traffic with about 2-3 minutes left and turned it over for the umpteenth time. I knew that was the end. Got in my car just in time to hear a perplexed Rodney Watson wondering just WTF Nagy was doing in the final minutes not applying any pressure.
These last few games have been carbon copies of each other. I've never seen a team that can blow a 13-point lead as quickly and thoroughly as this one. There's nobody left that we can beat. Season over and program probably never recovering. I know it's only Year 1 and I've defended this coach as much as anybody. But if Rodney's lost faith in him, so have I.
rockin' dawg, correct me if I am wrong. but if you were coaching the salukis, and the game was tied with 10 seconds left, and we had the ball, you would call a timeout and run a two man game with sharpe and d'amico, right?
This team won't win another game rest of the season. All the goodwill built up in January is gone. This program is dead
Get a grip. It’s year 1.
It’s year 1 for Drake.
1st D1 year for coach McCollum.
Entire roster is new except for 5th yr senior Ferguson
They beat Vandy & KState.
They’re in 1st place.
That’s what I expect at SIU
You live in a cave Dude? McCollum brought with him three of the best players from one of the best teams in D2. 29 - 5 and ranked #4. (This year without those guys they are 6 - 20.)
Stirtz will probably be MVC Player of the Year. Not exactly Year 1! Give McCollum our roster and I doubt our record would be much different.
We hired a coach who doesn't like the portal and the NIL and doesn't like player turnover so how are things going to get better if everyone is calling for another total rebuild and I for one haven't been impressed with game management and adjustments
Trying to smear Nagy because he doesn't like the NIL or the ridiculous player turnover? No coach likes the NIL or the ridiculous player turnover from what I've read.
As an aside, my lord does Dibba make some terrible entry passes. He is a talent but his game has some rough edges that are not conducive to winning basketball.

Yep. McCollum had a lot of continuity working in his favor, although admittedly what Drake has accomplished this season is well beyond my preseason expectations. But keep an eye on that situation. You think a combination of McCollum and Stirtz (who has a year of eligibility remaining) won't be attractive to a power conference school such as Iowa State if Otzelberger moves to Indiana or elsewhere, or Minnesota decides to make a change at the top of its mediocre program? Could be back to Square 1 for the Bulldogs. Of course, the same could be said for us, which is why Nagy and his staff MUST win the offseason (retain as many key players as possible, weed out those who don't fit, and find upgrades in the portal).
