Don't forget about JD Muila; with him and Domask we're not a Thursday team.
I do think the Muila injury hurt badly because goodGodthisteamisoneoftheworstoffensivereboundingteamsontheplanet ... you just knew there would be no stick-back on the last possession.
If you want to take one thing away about next year, even though they might be a bottom half of the Valley team again; it'll be another year of giving your future a bunch of minutes while everyone else in the Valley is playing their Seniors again. It could end up being a positive going forward even though in the short-term it just extends the rebuild another year. But you just have to hope being average to bad again next year doesn't hurt recruiting and player retention.
I would like to know how Valpo has had at least 2, perhaps 3-4 wide open 3's. I don't mean where the defender is even 2' away. I'm talking wide open.
That wide open corner 3 they just missed was perplexing. I think the most discouraging part of this season is SIU looks completely lost on defense a lot. Domask isn't a bad defender by any stretch but there's no way losing him should impact the team's defense that much.
For me the most disappointing this is the sharp regression in Year 2. If you would have told me at the beginning of the season that the Salukis would finish in the bottom half of the standings, I would have been upset but as long as I had seen PROGRESS, I would have been okay with it. It's going to be a long long wait for 2022-3. I'm not getting any younger. LOL
Yeah...but did you forget we all another year of life due to Covid!?
well old people will probably have to be patient like they are billed as being.
Wow that was disheartening... It’s disappointing that after Verplanken missed the layup he just stood there and didn’t try to recover the ball and get it up again.
A turn-around fade-away from Harvey might've been effective there. But he wasn't even on the court. I don't get it. He's the only guy on the team other than Jones capable of creating his own shot.
It was an odd 5 on the floor to close the game. Not many good options without Domask but having both Filewich and Harvey on the bench when you need a bucket and maybe an offensive rebound didn’t feel great.
The last 3-4 offensive possessions were not winning basketball.
Lousy loss in what has turned into a lousy season.
I agree with Filewich not being in on the last possession because Valpo would have just hacked him if he got the ball down low because he is a terrible FT shooter right now. I do however not understand why Harvey wasn't in on the last possession. I thought both teams played pretty well. We lost because Valpo has better athletes currently. We would have most likely won with Domask, but Valpo was missing their starting PG. Muila will add a shot blocking rebounding, interior defense component badly needed if he comes back healthy. We still need to add more athleticism though! Valpo was much more athletic than us. I wonder if Hinson offered Clay out of Alton. He is a very good 6'7" sophomore wing for Valpo and exactly what we need in the worst way!
There are 8 players on my list that cannot contribute enough to a top MVC program.
I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!

Domask, Jones, Muila, Banks and Filwich are good enough to play and possibly all start on most MVC or mid major teams. I am projecting with Banks and Filewich, based on how far they have come as freshman. I am basing Muila on his potential prior to the injury, hopefully he comes back strong. Brown and Verplancken are good enough to be role players off the bench, especially considering Brown is our best defender. We can lose everyone else. I hope we keep the players I just mentioned. With the 3 incoming freshman that would leave us 3 open rides. We should use at least 2 of them on upper class, super athletic 3's or 4's. Juco or grad transfer. Use the last one on the best athlete available regardless of position.

I think Ben Harvey can play on a good MVC team. I know he hasn't been as great as expected but it's easy to forget that he's only a Sophomore.

You just summed up everything I had to say, brother. For once, we are completely on the same page. And Alton was too far for Hinson to drive. 😉

My bad, I agree Harvey is good enough to keep. He badly needs to improve on defense. I don't think he's a starter on a good mvc team because he is such a defensive liability. He gets blown by on almost every opportunity. He cannot hang defensively with good athletes. He could be instant offense off the bench like the old microwave for the Pistons. That would leave 2 rides, both to be used on athletic 3's or 4's.
I’m not sure who has more upside between Harvey and Verplancken, but I think both are bench guys for a good MVC team, and their skill sets might be redundant.

Harvey could be more, if he were willing to put in an extraordinary effort in the weight room. Neither will be able to hold off Freshman Foster Wonders next year, IMO. And that's a good thing.
Rough loss on top of a rough season. I still have full confidence in this staff moving forward. I think projecting us as a lower half of the league team next season is an overreaction.
Last year we out performed expectations with a veteran team. I think last years team lacked athleticism , and as much of a godsend BB was he wasn't an animal on the glass.
This year the first 7 games was a little bit of fools gold, we beat a lot of not real good teams. However, The most important recruit we had was Muila and obviously that didn't work out this year.
A healthy Domask , a healthy Mulia and a full offseason of preparation and I am confident that the group we have can be a top 3 or 4 team in the league.

I'd be pretty shocked considering Missouri State is already getting Prim back and Drake has said that everyone will be back for them. If everyone else in the Valley is bringing everyone back, there's no shot they're finishing even in the top 6. Remember, Northern Iowa is getting A.J. Green back.
