Solid effort for most of the game against a high-quality opponent. Wheels kind of fell off there under 8-10 minutes. Not too sad about the loss, but if this team can ever learn to finish point blank layups and make free throws consistently, Salukis would have a few more W's.
Go Dawgs!
March on triumphantly!
Sure he got a couple bounces but 4-4 from the stripe for Jorge, the second coming of Blake Ahearn!
Nagy wasn’t happy on the radio about just playing Drake close.
Aligbe acquired himself well, Moreno is a new weapon for Salukis. Going to be an interesting Arch Madness. Thank God we aren’t Murray State!!!

One of the encouraging takeaways from this game was that our backup bigs, Aligbe and Moreno, combined for 11 points and 13 rebounds (Aligbe had 10 rebounds). Not bad production.

No, he was not. He said he wanted no part of a program that accepts moral victories.
Could not attend today because of a conflict, so I had to record the game and watch it later. I did the ESPN live updates as much as possible. When I was looking at the final stats, I noticed the attendance was 4306. That is extremely disappointing to say the least.
After watching the game, and not hearing the postgame comments by Coach Nagy or anyone else except what is posted here, the turnovers were a major factor in this loss like many of the previous losses. What bothers me is not only the number of turnovers, but the type of turnovers and the timing of them.
From watching games, the majority of these turnovers come from players getting caught up in the air, trying to force passes through defenders, and trying to dribble through two or more defenders. The turnovers also happen at the most in opportune time: to break a run by us, during a run by them, or when a basket is needed.
The Dawgs need to avenge the Evansville loss Wednesday and then come home to a better crowd against UIC Saturday.
Felt like a Winter Break crowd. Student turnout wasn't bad but could have been better. The regular fan turnout was as light as I can remember though. Feels like people have checked out after the slow start. Doesn't help that it's been 18 years since the Salukis seriously competed for a Missouri Valley title.
Eventually nostalgia is gonna run out, this program really needs to get this turned around.
I am increasingly frustrated by the mistakes made by Sheridan Sharp.

It doesn't help that the current college sports landscape is such a mess. Hard being a fan of any basketball program outside of the elites right now.
Its good to see that SIU has turned things around though and has been playing more to their potential. The effort level has certainly flipped 100%. Keeping that up will help bring some fans back.

A lot of people checked out after the Evansville game and it will be hard to get them back. I’m back, but quite frankly, it is a lot easier to get me back than most others.
SIU fans in general are not die hard fans. The football crowds are downright pathetic.
Crowds were already lighter before that because the general opinion amongst several fans that Mullins should be here. Not everyone comments on this board and Facebook. Most “silent” fans were really angry that I know, and are coming less often now. But regardless, New year’s had 6,000, where the last two years it was 7,000+. That’s a general trend I’ve noticed. About 500-1,000 less average per game.
We need some pretty big wins to get people back. Maybe even a conference championship, which we aren’t close to yet.
Some may have checked out...their loss. This team is more fun to watch than last year's IMO. The improvement from 7 games ago is amazing.
The crowds still look better than a lot of MVC teams. I think a 1pm game on a Saturday is going to draw fewer fans too.
I certainly agree that the crowd yesterday was quite poor, and on national TV too. Quite disappointing for a team that just won back to back road contests, and is playing much better.
SIU football has always had poor attendance. Heck, the National Champion Ohio State Buckeyes could be playing at Saluki Stadium and folks would be showing up late, and leaving early.
I have stated this before. I truly wanted Coach Mullins to succeed at SIU. The reality is it was not happening in year 5. You either fire a year too early, or a year too late...Decision was made nearly a year ago, time to move on, and support the current coaching staff and players. To say fans are not coming out because they liked BM more than Coach Nagy, or that BM was the better coach? If true, that's just plain silly. Let's put things into perspective. BM's current team the DePaul Blue Demons are 1-10 in the conference play, and 10-12 overall. This after starting the season 8-0 by playing cupcake city games all at home. Coach Nagy is 10-13 overall, and 5-7 in conference play. Guessing Demon fans are saying the same. Need some big wins, and a conference championship to get folks back. 🙂
Go Dawgs!!!
"In Nagy, I trusty"
To me, it's actually a bit surprising that attendance hasn't dropped off more because the factors contributing to it have been going on for some time. Too often, going back to the Hinson era, SIU has had an unfortunate habit of laying an egg at home in front of big crowds against the conference's top teams. There have also been too many blown leads at home (especially last season) and the repeated inability to defeat the Bradleys, Drakes, Northern Iowas, etc., home or away and advance deep into the conference tournament. Combine all of that and you really can't blame people for staying away. I thought that yesterday, after two road victories and with the conference's top team visiting, 6,000 or so might turn out, but no dice.
I would not dispute that the Evansville game was the last straw for many fans. It attracted more than 6,000 people hoping for a good show; instead, they got chaos and underachievement.
There's been some reason for optimism recently because SIU did NOT lay an egg and was in it almost all the way yesterday against Drake and also ridded itself of a few demons by routing UNI at home several weeks ago. Both of these games drew in the low 4,000s, but it seems that those are the types of efforts we'll need consistently to start building the crowds back. Four home games remain and they all look winnable, which would be a nice start. Also, we've played three consecutive road games in which the home teams attracted 3,000 or less, so it's not like everyone in the Valley is packing their arenas.
