A fan poll is a fan poll, how exactly does Buster being well regarded make a fan poll a more accurate gauge of anything? Plus I would like to point out that even the biased fan poll did not get Yadi to the 75% threshold needed, so good job?
and I notice you merely attacked the guy’s qualifications but do not really have a counterpoint to his core argument that Yadi’s numbers don’t actually compare super favorably to other catchers who are in and out of the hall. Yadi’s whole enshrinement relies on nebulous eye test “intangibles” as opposed to hard numbers, that IMO means it isn’t as sure of a thing as people want to pretend.
1. The point about Buster is that because he is a national writer, a poll on his Twitter is going to get much more realistic results than say, a poll posted by Derrick Goold. And the main reason I shared it in the first place is because I think 43,000 is a pretty decent sample size.
2. I already listed my reasoning in an earlier post, so I don't feel the need to repeat myself. He'll be in.
But I will add another stat just for the fun of it. This table shows stolen bases allowed from 2005-2018. Maybe your boy the medicinal chemist can share how Jim Sundberg stacks up.
No one denies Yadi is an amazing defensive player, IMO a HOF case that leans heavily on defense is hardly a sure thing. Guys getting in exclusively for defense isnt really the norm, Ozzie at least had being a top 30 career base stealer to back up his defensive resume. Time will tell though.
Off the Yadi debate I think this franchise just needs to commit to a proper rebuild at this point. They are broken and they really dont seem to be an easy "piece or two" away from being unbroken. Luhnow was clearly the true brains in this operation.
Been saying all offseason the pitching wasn’t good enough. All I heard was how deep this pitching staff was.
Just because you have 10 C+ pitchers doesn’t mean you have depth. It just means you have a lot of mediocrity.
But they did nothing to address the staff and they will probably be playing in 8-6 games all year.
Just wanted to come back and bump this post from the first week of the season 😂

I would rather watch the Orioles. These Chumps just got shutout by the Giants.
Tonight's game is an illustration of the last 4 years. Pathetic.
My thoughts.
1) Carpenter cannot hit or throw a damn baseball. It is like watching slow motion when he throws to first base. Sure can't bunt a baseball either. Embarrassing.
2) Dump Fowler and his contract if anyone is interested. He has some value at this time.
3) Trade Headcase Martinez the pitcher.
4) Not impressed with the lefty Andrew Miller. I was happy when we picked him up. I will be even happier when he is gone.
5) Next year sign a quality 3rd baseman free agent.
6) Tyler O'Neill should start every game in either left or right field. I think he is about to become a stud for the Cards.
Astros followed by the cubs will be a good test of the legitimacy of this run

Was Carpenter ok last year when he was playing like an MVP ? Give it a rest

Team is doing quite well without him in the lineup. Pay attention

is 2019 the same year as 2018? Carpenter is 33, close to 34. In the post steroid era plenty of guys start to drop early mid 30s.
Hard to believe on July 27 the Cardinals are in first place alone, especially the way this season has gone with underperforming players, injuries, and the disaster that was the month of May.
Fortunately, the Central isn't that great this year.
Tough stretch right now for the Redbirds with the Astros, Cubs, A's and Dodgers for the next 4 series.

Yes, somewhat surprised and Central is wide open. Goldie starting to make a big difference.
Should be more fun when Yadi and Ozuna return to the lineup.
March on triumphantly!
How stunning Cards stay pat, content to eek their way to mid 80 wins and hope that is enough to trip into the playoffs. They need to either nuke it and properly rebuild with a competent GM or freaking go for it. Stop wallowing in mediocrity
If we luck out and win the division or get a wildcard, we're done. No starting pitching depth.
