https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2021/01/29/nolan-arenado-trade-cardinals-rockies-agree-blockbuster-deal/4319605001/

but what "multiple" prospects are they giving up? not too much I hope

Kolten Wong gone too. Fowler was seriously overpaid!

The removal of Kolten Wong and, even more so Dexter Fowler, seems just as valuable as the Arenado addition. Three awesome moves for the Cardinals.

There was no bigger pain in the ssa leadoff man in baseball than Cubbie Fowler. He would run up pitch counts, only to finally deflate the opposition with a double on the 2-strike 9th pitch of the AB. Cardinal Fowler, for whatever reason, was a shell of that version.

I guess I fail to see why getting rid of KW is a good thing....or am I just barking up the  wong tree?

Personally I like Wong. But I love Tommy Edmund. He doesn't have the glove that Wong has, but he's pretty solid. Edmund can flat out hit. Best leadoff batter that we have had in some time. Also $9 million less on payroll. Just my thoughts.

Regarding Wong, more than anything, it's just a personal gut feeling thing with me. The "eye test," if you will. Without digging into any of his numbers, it seems like he'll make an outstanding defensive play one inning, only to have a costly E4 the next. Or a boneheaded baserunning blunder (like getting picked off first when the entire world knows he's throwing over there, 2013 WS). I think he's never been able to max out his potential. He's a decent player, but I think he could have been - and still can be - one level higher.
