Bama, Clemson, Our Lady, and no-D Oklahoma. (Oklahoma gave up 27 to mighty Iowa State - as did the NON-scholarship Drake Bookworms)
Anybody but me and Dave Wannstedt think having just 4 teams is crazy? If it was 6, because there are usually 6 really good teams, the #1 and #2 could have a bye first week. Or 8 - just makes the playoffs that much more interesting. We have Ohio St - a bit schizo but really talented offensively, undefeated-for-two-years UCF, Georgia who appears to have great talent but not great coaching or they would have beaten Bama. Just BS that they can't rearrange those bowls - it's all about money somehow.
Every year several really good, sometimes undefeated teams are left out. They could rearrange their bowl games so it worked out.
I've always thought a 6 team playoff would be best. Give each of the power 5 conference champions a spot, then an "at large" team a spot.
The bracket right now would have Bama and Clemson with first round byes.
Then Bama would take on the winner of ND vs UCF
Clemson would take on the winner of ou and osu
Sorry Georgia and Michigan, my bracket says you have to have won a conference championship game to get into said bracket.
This works perfect. 8 teams is too many; 6 would work perfect.
First poll is out by the secret committee.
1. Ohio St.
2. LSU
3. Alabama
4. Penn St.
Ohio St. is just loaded - looks way better than last year, especially on D, and they have so many weapons. Their new QB is getting better every week and has all the talent in the world. Dobbins is a terrific RB, as are all the backups. Great receivers. Wow! The way they have pounded everybody, including #16 Wisconsin (who crushed Michigan) and #17 Cincy is impressive. This could be the best team they've had in a long time. (Now watch em lose to Maryland! 😀 )
IMO, no way Penn St. is better than Clemson or Georgia. They were fortunate to win a home game against Michigan.
First, I'll just say having only four teams is just ridiculous. Even Jim Hairball, most overpaid coach in America, thinks there should be 11 teams. I like his idea - would still retain the corrupt bowl games, but really good teams would not get left out. https://www.freep.com/story/sports/ncaaf/bigten/2019/11/06/michigan-football-jim-harbaugh-college-football-playoff/4175854002/
"The plan: 11 teams and 15 games spanning from the first week of December to the first week of January.
The plan includes getting rid of league championship games; Power 5 conferences would determine their champions with a 12-game schedule.
So Harbaugh says you take those five champions and six other teams, including the top non-Power 5 team (Notre Dame or Group of 5) and five at-large teams (using the old Bowl Championship Series system with computers and strength of schedule).
The bottom six teams would play on the weekend currently reserved for conference championships. The losers of these games would be thrown into the bowl pool.
On Heisman Trophy weekend, say hello to the national quarterfinals. That would still push the semifinals to near New Year's Day, with the title game a week after."
Nope; you're wrong, Woogers! 😉 My own Mike Gundy at just over $5M per year is the most overpaid coach in America. At least JimmyFootball's teams put 110K plus in a stadium every week to earn back a lot of that $7M per year he makes while losing every year to their biggest rival. Mike Gundy can only put max 60K butts in the seats at home games while losing every year to our biggest rival....
LSU beats Bama and looks really good. Joe Burrow, not good enough to start at Ohio St, is going to play in the NFL. Heck of a QB. Love LSU's RB, also should play in the NFL.
Ohio St's 1st string, minus Chase Young, possibly the best D lineman in the country, won the first half against Maryland 42 - 0. Their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th strings won the 2nd half 31 - 14. Their backup QB is really good. Their 2nd and 3rd string RBs are really good. 705 yds of offense. Maryland's McFarland, who rushed for 298 yards last year against OSU, rushed for 7 yds.
Clemson was up 42 - 0 at half on NC State. Won 55 - 10.
LSU will be #1 in the next CFP poll most likely due to beating a great opponent. OSU #2, Clemson #3 Probably Bama #4, since way overrated Penn St lost to Minnesota (who only beat SDSU due to a bad 4th quarter turnover.)
