Drake vs Miami in Albany.  Winner gets #4 Indiana or #13 Kent State

A couple sorta-Saluki-related notes on this Selection Sunday:

- One-time Saluki commit Chris Payton had 17 points on 7 of 7 shooting from the floor last night for Kent State in their MAC title win over Toledo. I know his offcourt persona was not considered to be a great fit for the Mullins culture but his athleticism definitely would have added something to the roster.

- I saw Oklahoma State listed among Lunardi's "last four out," which brings to mind a certain result from November in Stillwater ... if they barely miss the cut, that's as close as the Salukis will come to some Selection Sunday relevancy ...

We could use an athlete like Payton on our roster next year. Hopefully Mullins has realized that. Good for Payton though. Was watching that game and he stood out, plays very hard and was most aggressive player on floor majority of game.

”Hopefully Mullins has realized that”. Really? I’m being told that Mullins is getting a player like that out of STL.

SEMO and Brad Korn are going dancing in year 2 after beating Tennessee Tech in the OVC Championship.  Won 4 games in 4 days.

This is year 3 for Korn.

Seth Davis the only talking head that had any respect for #12 Drake. Picked Drake to beat Miami and Indiana to get to the Sweet 16.

I thought Drake should have been seeded at least 11. They were playing great last couple of games. Still not sure how the Gargoyles won the MVC.

After watching the selection show it is evident that the valley will be a one bid league for the foreseeable future unless the conference gets deeper and finds away to schedule quad 1 games and those teams aren't going to schedule the valley because they can't afford a loss to a team in the valley and it will be a short time until the power 5 cuts everyone out so they can get all the money

I would have liked to have seen Drake as an 11 seed and matched against Creighton.

It would have been a fun matchup.

in other news UNC turns down the NIT invite.

@siufan6 UNC wouldn't stoop to the lowly NIT - Jerks! Don't think they could win it. Will be a lot of tough teams in the NIT.

That Friday late game is good news for Miami. They were hoping for a Friday game and as late as possible to give their center Omier's ankle more time to recover. I'm sure that was by NCAA design. Tough matchup for Drake, especially if Omier is anywhere near 100%. Like Drake Miami is one of the oldest teams in the ncaa this year. They are very athletic and co-ACC champs. Both Miami and Drake probably deserved higher seeds.
