Comments welcome!

(1) US COVID-19 statistics (February 29, 2020-June 16, 2020): 2,124,000 reported cases and 115,052 deaths
(2) Donald Trump (June 15, 2020) told a group of senior citizens that there would be very few cases of COVID-19 if the US stopped its testing and contact tracing: "If we stop testing right now, we'd have very few cases, actually."
(3) Donald Trump [(Jan 20, 2020), when asked if he's worried about a pandemic]: “No. Not at all. And we have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s — going to be just fine.”

too loud.  Practically impossible to talk to person next to you when he is doing his nonstop ads and announcements.  I know he has at job to do but turn it down a bit.   Pet peeve,  SIU on a run or fans helping officials after another terrible call, PA kills it with extremely loud  incessant chatter.   IMO

The guy who is the PA announcer is a good guy first off . That said though, its so over the top that it interferes with the game and the broadcast. I noticed Sat night something happened to the Audio at the football stadium. Its like they blew a speaker. If not, then its a crap system they bought. In my opinion the music etc should be loud, all the time but when the PA guy comes on it should be toned down. The ads are part of the athletic departments revenue stream but it really impacts the game negatively. They need to reduce them if they can.  With basketball its even worse, he is so incessant on being the center of attention that's it distracting at best and overbearing at worst. I know the powers that be have spoken to him about it but nothing changes and they don't seem to hold him accountable.  I was at the NCAA tourney in 07 and he literally was doing his thing sitting two rows behind me, it was terrible. And yet, as I said earlier a very nice guy who loves Saluki Athletics. Buy or Sell? Sell!

ddays: I very much appreciate the subtleties of your response, and find a lot to admire about what you've posted. Like a lot of things discussed on this board, this is a complicated subject.

I have a question for you: you stated that "the music etc should be loud, all the time but when the PA guy comes on it should be toned down. "

What do you mean by 'the music should be loud, all the time'?

SIU's game presentation for MBB at the Arena last year was much, much better than in past years (another example of a greater commitment to SIU sports by the administration in terms of dollars in...tough to say chicken-and-the egg but the outgoing AD was in charge at the time).

But, in my mind, the improved game presentation was not accompanied by an improvement in how the PA announcer conducts himself: i.e. how he does his job.

Last year would have been a great time to at a minimum change the job description for the PA announcer as well...because what happens during MBB games (and other events as well) is, at the very least, not a good look.

My 2 cents.

having been to other valley sporting venues,

I like the energy the announcer brings to the crowd. it beats the Ben Stein "Bueller for 3" feeling of Terre Haute's arena, or some of the other facilities.

Sell, sell, sell. Any PA announcer who feels the need to introduce himself has to go.  We do not go to games to listen to him. He should not make himself the center of attention.

Bringing energy is great.  Bringing annoying, self-promoting noise is not great.  We can do better.

I guess this is the complaint box, so...The sound system pre-game at the FB stadium is so loud it's hard to talk to people near or even next to you. Not a problem during the game. (Replays were really well done BTW.)

...different PA announcer for today's MBB game. A welcome change, in my view.

(1) US COVID-19 statistics (February 29, 2020-June 16, 2020): 2,124,000 reported cases and 115,052 deaths

Listened to the game and watched on ESPN3....So nice to hear a reasonable but quality PA Announcer. Again , the guy who does it is a very nice guy, but the guy today was better by a mile....just not overbearing. You could actually hear Onion and Trude  and Reis as opposed to when the reg guy  does it all you can hear is him and its tough to hear the announcers over him. Heres hoping its a sign of things to come , but my guess is no.

Agreed.  Less annoyance on the TV feed was nice but couldn't understand him.  Not sure how it sounded in the Arena.

Falat has a great voice for it, he just needs to tone it down a lot.  No one is watching the game to hear him.  Maybe when the crowds get larger and louder it will help drown him out a bit.  It’s almost like they just need to turn the volume down on him
