Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the youtube videos of Maroon5 and have multiple songs on my iPhone playlist.
When you get right down to it, these things are underachieving and I have a suspicion most of them are lip synched (except for Bruno Mars and Maroon5 which were awful) and generally political. It seems like they'd be better off dropping this and shortening the game. The rating have been falling like a rock and with all the political crap going on in the NFL this year and the political crap in past halftime shows it is less appealing.
Is this just a matter of the NFL wanting to make the event as long as possible for ad revenues? Does the halftime show get a single extra person to watch the event? I'm sure Katy Perry, Arianda Grande, and Lady Gaga fans probably miss the game the most years so I get why people like them are selected.

I think collegiate marching bands would make just as good, if not better, halftime shows. I nominate our own Marching Salukis, and suggest they revive the Saluki Steinway.
A badass drum and bugle corp show would be pretty awesome. I used to watch the competitions at Mboro and it really awesome.

Actually cancel the boring-a*s game until Brady retires and hand them the trophy. Just have an extended clothing malfunction (with extended malfunctions) halftime show! 😀

Alternative Superbowl 1/2 time show. During the regular season have school bands compete at 1/2 time and winners advance to the next game. Eliminations would continue through the playoffs with the ultimate winner performing at Superbowl. Get rid of the goofy Hollywood garbage.
