freshmen went up 12%, their enrollment overall is down 3%
Has anyone heard rumors on how enrollment is looking for this fall?
They'll tell us up 10% and after semester starts will admit down 3%.

Article in The Southern talks about Lane’s first two years and a bit about the strategy moving forward. He did mention again while still early, looks like Freshmen enrollment will increase which is a good trend to see.
Bump...would like to see where things are headed. Still always want them to grow but I am more realistic these days.

Here is the latest.
US News & World Report ranked colleges. U of Illinois ranked 13th best public school and 41st of all universities. SIU ranked 132nd of public universities and 263 out of 443 of all universities. Think maybe this has something to do with recruiting kids. SIU is a couple thousand less costly in tuition.

I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!
Bump
Waiting on the 10d enrollment numbers like every year.
Hoping for the best. I do feel like I've seen more and more alumni and old HS classmate's children at SIU. So hoping for the best!
Those US News rankings are Extremely questionable. The single largest factor is graduation rate after 6 years and freshman student retention. If the demographic of a university is students with fewer financial resources, the rankings should have little to do with graduation rate IMO. Rankings are a big money maker for these media outfits.
SIU made the Princeton Review Best in the Midwest as well as 2023 Green college. Have no idea how PR ranks schools.
I think the goal is to get to a stable 15K. That's a good number. When I was here, 24K+ students and the place was busting at the seams. Not really built for that. If you didn't get to class early, for some classes you would end up standing for 50 minutes.
Great news! Hopefully we get things snowballing in the right direction now!
I had been wondering about this, and wow, it even exceeded my hopes.
Largest percentage increase in enrollment in 30 years.
Kudos to Lane and the administration.
It's really cool to finally see that the enrollment is moving in a positive direction. Like was said earlier, the days of 24,000 students is long gone (for a number of reasons) but having the goal of 15,000 students in a healthy environment is good for the school, Carbondale and the region.
