Congratulations to Saluki trackster John Smith on being recognized with his induction into the SIU Sports Hall of Fame for his stellar athletic and coaching careers.

Not sure if this has been brought up but it is an absolute embarrassment that Joe Lutz is not in the Hall of Fame

I agree.  The Hall of Fame selection process have always seemed a mystery to me.  I have read the criteria and agree that the selections have been worthy, but the timing of some is incredulous.  It took over 30 years for some of the better athletes from my time at SIU to be invited to join the Hall...John "Mouse" Garrett in basketball, John Hoscheidt in baseball and Bill Hancock in track and field.

Having been involved in the effort that resulted in an athlete being inducted into the Hall, I know it comes down to the politics and lobbying efforts of those influencing the committee.  Maybe it's time for a grassroots effort for Joe Lutz.
