Itchy was my father's high school coach in Jacksonville before he became the coach at MacMurray.
Watched his teams when I was a student (when I was a freshman, the team was fresh off a College World Series appearance). Great coach and even better person. RIP.
I didn’t know him and his time at SIU was before mine, but I enjoy reading about the baseball program’s dominance in the ‘70s and ‘80s.
Sounds like it was a great era, and mostly attributed to him. I appreciate that he stayed involved with SIU after his time there too.
Even though Murray State technically is the "home" team Wednesday night, I sure hope there's a moment of silence in honor of Coach Jones before the game. He deserves it.
