Former Saluki Sam Coonrod cited Christian beliefs, BLM’s affiliation with Marxism and their opposition to the nuclear family as reasons for not taking a knee.

I wish the news was more basebally but the kid is everywhere right now.

He's sort of stuck between correct and uninformed here.  I'm for players kneeling but don't think people should be shamed for not kneeling.

https://sports.yahoo.com/giants-sam-coonrod-explains-why-062127926.html

Every player and coach from both teams took a knee before the anthem and held a long piece of black fabric in a moment of unity, with the exception of one.

The outlier was Sam Coonrod, a second-year Giants reliever who said after the game that he is a Christian and "can't kneel before anything besides God." He also said he does not agree with some of what he has heard about the Black Lives Matter movement.

"I'm a Christian, like I said, and I just can't get on board with a couple of things that I have read about Black Lives Matter," Coonrod said. "How they lean toward Marxism and they've said some negative things about the nuclear family. I just can't get on board with that."...

The idea reportedly came from former Giant Andrew McCutchen, who told ESPN that the black fabric was a socially distanced way to link arms and show unity. Players also wore patches and Black Lives Matter T-shirts during batting practice.

McCutchen said the moment was meant to illustrate that MLB can be a force for change when it comes to addressing injustice...

Sam:

"I meant no ill will by it. I don't think I'm better than anyone," Coonrod said after the game. "I'm a Christian. I just believe I can't kneel before anything besides God -- Jesus Christ.

------

Sam forgot to mention whether he agrees with the knee on neck tactic.

@mr_woogers

the report I saw was that everyone was kneeling including the manager. At some point during the anthem some rose to their feet.

Bryan Mullins, Nick Hill and several of SIU’s other coaches and athletes have done a really nice job demonstrating their understanding of and support for the renewed push for addressing racism and inequality in our country. I applaud each of them and hope to see it continue.

Somebody posted: “Sam forgot to mention whether he agrees with the knee on neck tactic.“ He did say he would burn down a store, tear down a statue, wreck a cop car and jump off a bridge because everyone else is doing it.

The evil in this world flourishes only thru the sanction we give it.  It's good to see one of ours standing to face on insanity.

Go Sam

It is good to see him stand up for his own beliefs, instead of being bullied into doing what everyone else does.  An no, this does not in any way make him a racist, even though the media is making him look like the enemy.

Good for him!

I think it'll be fine unless someone has an issue with code of federal regulations definition of terrorism.

You see: this is the problem. You're baiting. But if anyone has any push-back at all, THEY will be the ones who have "turned it political."

No. This thread started out political, and that's a no-no.

Do you feel the man had an obligation to kneel?  I don't and him standing is the most non-political stance he could have taken.
