This sucks!  Who was the coach they brought in recently?  I was hoping that he could elevate SIU’s recruiting efforts.  Doesn’t seem to be paying off this far.

I agree; I'm more concerned with the schools we're competing against moreso than the recruit not choosing us.  I was of the mindset that this new recruiting hire would more regularly aim higher.

@usmcsaluki Agree. So far I haven't seen the Howard hire having as much impact as I had hoped given his past track record. Looks like we will have to restock thru the portal in the spring.

From a national scouting report:

2024 PG Connor Amundsen from Clovis North HS in Fresno, CA is one of the more talented and polished 2024 guards on the West Coast. After earning 2020-21 Underclassman of the Year and TRAC 1st Team, CJ continued to develop during an impressive summer circuit that included MVP at Next Up Top 30 Showcase and Pangos All-West Cream of the Crop Top 30. As of this writing, Connor is ranked #3 PG and #26 overall by CalHiSports.com.

Connor possesses range that extends beyond the 3-point line and is a 40%-plus 3FG shooter against high level competition. Using hesitation and crafty handles, he is able to break down his defender and beat him off the bounce to finish around the rim with either hand. The ability to catch and shoot, step back and knock down, attack and finish, and pull up to hit a mid-range jumper or floater makes him a versatile scorer. He moves well without the ball, cutting at the correct angle at the right time.

Murray State got a commitment from 3/4 star F Jordan McCullum who had offers from SEC schools

It's hard to give Howard too much criticism. He was hired late into the recruiting period and has been out of the game for a bit. Have to let him get going. Hopefully 2025 and on is when it pays dividends.

Fall signing period starts Wednesday, November 8th.  I guess we'll see if this staff has any surprises up their sleeves.

Would not get excited if nothing happens quickly as high school players are signing later and in the spring not to mention the God awful portal crap in the spring where a team can reload if they target the right players

You can reload in one offseason via the portal but I don't have any trust that this staff can because I've never seen it.

Murray State is having a ton of high school recruiting success this season so I don't buy that SIU can't get good players.

Thousand of dollars and hundreds of hours spent on the high school class of 2024 and zero commitments. The program can’t be substainable if this continues.

@salukiworld

Agreed.  The vast majority of NLI's are still done in the fall.  Howard has been on the job for 6 months and while that is not a long time in the full recruiting cycle, it IS enough time to make a difference, especially in the transfer portal.
