Scottie Ebube back in the portal after a hard winter in Laramie, Wyoming, that included missing some games for off-court friction with the coaching staff.
I thought he'd be really formidable as an upperclassman, but he's running out of time. Guessing he ends up closer to home for his last dance: maybe Horizon League, MAC or even a UIC or Valpo. I actually would not be opposed to him coming back to Carbondale, but seems very unlikely for various reasons.

No thanks. He barely played for a bad Wyoming team in Laradise. When he did, he didn't do much. I know a lot of folks were enamored with his monster jams, but his terrible FT shooting, bad footwork, and attitude don't seem to have improved.
Yeah, as far as SIU is concerned, that ship almost certainly has sailed (or maybe it's more appropriate to say, "That motor scooter has left the garage"). Like most who post here, I had visions of him becoming a dominant player, but he couldn't put it together with any consistency and he probably is what he is at this point. We'll probably never really know if it was a maturity/attitude thing or if he just wasn't all that good in the first place.

What happens to players who are not selected? I apologize for not knowing, but this stuff drives me crazy. I mean there might be more players in the portal than are selected. Can they remain with their original team (if wanted)? Do they just drop down a notch? Just curious.

Assuming they don’t withdrawal from the portal before it closes, they have to find a team/scholarship or they are out of luck. They can return to their original team, but I doubt that happens much.
@siu_2011 it’s so weird there’s just zero information out there about who’s staying who we are targeting . I feel like this off season in particular has been awfully quiet so far on the Saluki end
I think most of our transfers from last year were not widely reported prior to their visits or commitments. A lot of commitments come out of nowhere regarding public knowledge or social media coverage.@siu_2011 it’s so weird there’s just zero information out there about who’s staying who we are targeting . There's actually quite a bit of coverage. But there's also SO many that enter it so quick, all of that information can be hard to come by.
On the departing front, I say no additional news is good news at this point. The players are gonna want to get into the portal earlier this year since the window is around 15 days shorter than last years.
The biggest portal names will go first too and then there will be a trickle down to the mid-majors.
Rarely does much news come out during the beginning of portal season, except for the guys entering it. It is extremely common for teams to look absolutely awful with holes everywhere at this point. I’m not too concerned yet. Hopefully we get some good news in April.
