I found an interesting post over on Redbirdfan.net (forgive me), but someone broke down all Valley transfers and put the names into a table view so you can see a big-picture view of portal transfers for the entire league.
In short, 9 of the 12 schools have players departing for the portal, and there are just 3 that have not lost a single player yet:
- UNI
- Indiana State
- SIU
I realize it's super early in the portal season, and this could all change in the next five minutes, but it's still pretty eye-opening.
Um,Other than Carter, most of these guys would not be considered top players in the MVC.
Petrakis will be on his 5th school, McChesney on his 3rd, etc.
I'm sure there's more coming though.
Sheppard - best player on Belmont
Mast - Best player on Bradley
Carter - Best player on UIC
Mogbo - one of the best players on Missouri State
Jackson - probably the 2nd best player on UIC and a rising star
Brauns - one of the best freshman in the MVC, Belmont's 2nd best player down the stretch and a future stud
Smith - One of Murray States best players
White Jr. - One of Murray States best players
McChesney - one of Illinois States better players and on the rise
That's just to name a few transfers....
I'm talking portal. Going Pro or graduating is a different animal. Sheppard going pro, Mast graduating??. Other than Carter, none of those guys in the portal are that big a loss IMO.
Mast is in the portal. Sheppard has left the option open to enter the portal if he doesn't like his pro prospects. Also, a lot of the other players are valuable pieces to their teams, so I respectfully disagree.Um,Other than Carter, most of these guys would not be considered top players in the MVC.

That would be a nice additionhttps://twitter.com/verbalcommits/status/1639263718994313218?s=46&t=7s0hTttieSER8wqRSA0LoA
Valpo's best player. Not surprising with the coaching change, but the league's talent level has taken a huge hit just a couple weeks into the portal.https://twitter.com/verbalcommits/status/1639263718994313218?s=46&t=7s0hTttieSER8wqRSA0LoA
Valpo likely would have been picked 11th or 12th WITH Krikke next year, but in general, yes, it's been a predictably ugly few weeks around the MVC and other midmajor leagues.
The best news for the league so far has been DeVries x2 looking likely to stay, at least so far. UNI should be very good next year and they haven't lost anyone (and added Hutson from Loyola). Still much to play out in the coming weeks, including in Carbondale, that will better shape the offseason narrative.

The first 2 weeks is like this for every conference. Players leave, but nobody has signed yet. Wait until the dust settles. The end result won’t look as bad as it does 2 weeks in.

With Indiana State's departures that leaves just two programs that have not had anyone leave for the portal:
- UNI
- SIU
