SIU loses an impact player to the portal:

That is a real tough one to swallow.
This is going to happen more often until NIL opportunities improve at SIU. Not only is the NIL money very limited, the players receive one of the smallest monthly scholarship checks per player as any program in all of college football.
He was by far our best defensive player last year and arguably our best player. Huge loss!!!!!
Yeah, Hagarty loss hurts. I assume this had to do with the new coordinator?
@saluki44 talked to his dad and he said it was the best decision for Richie and his daughter.
Players in college basketball are allowed into the transfer portal, starting next Monday (day after championship selections are announced) until May 12th.
IMHO, this rule is killing college basketball. Free agency and college basketball don't blend.
It’s killing college basketball at our level and below, but it’s benefiting those top programs. College basketball will eventually be forced to go to a similar setup like football.IMHO, this rule is killing college basketball. Free agency and college basketball don't blend.
I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!
Not sure if we want another thread for Valley transfers, but Jamari Smith has already said he’s leaving Murray State.
He is “going professional. “

that’s a big loss for the Racers. He was their possessions and shots leader. They’ll need to get another big in the portal. I do like their 3 guards and Burns
I thought we'd just keep all of the Valley schools and other schools that SIU play in this thread. Don't really care about Kentucky, Kansas or Illinois.

I think Burns gets a little too wound up. Wasn't it him who fouled Tucker DeVries 80 feet from the basket when he was heaving the ball at the basket as the half ended?

Yes, not the shrewdest foul I've ever seen. And "a little too wound up" is quite the understatement ... I'm thinking he might be wired a little differently.
If we are keeping track of everyone, Maybe a sticky post on the first page that gets updated @barkeep-1967? I’d be happy to update it as things progress if you need a scapegoat.
The transfer portal, as it stands today, might not be popular but it is the reality of the college basketball world we live in. The transfer portal also works both ways. I'm watching championship week and there are so many players, such as Tristan Enaruna on Cleveland St, that come from Power 5 schools that can absolutely lead their Mid Major school and give them a chance to make it to the big dance. Just because our Coaches haven't been successful in recruiting doesn't make it impossible. Instead of going after another DII player this offseason, perhaps the staff should go after a Power 5 xfer who can make a real difference.
At this point, I'm fine with whoever leaves, including the SR's. I ONLY want players back who WANT to be here. The key will be to UPGRADE any players that actually do leave.
