My excitement level for SIU is as high as it has been since roughly 2008 right now.
For two reasons, this upcoming season is going to be exciting.
I just don’t (want to) believe Bryan Mullins is gonna go out with a whimper.
I want to see him coach like he played, which is fearless.

They’re the ones that can get us where we haven’t been in 15 years.
Is Trey Miller of UIW one of our portal candidates?
Brendan and Bryan are following him on Twitter
That’s a Salukiworld question
From what I have heard from multiple people is Ferguson is really really good. I have not seen him
That would be nice, but he barely got a sniff last season so I question that. The few minutes I saw him play, he looked like he should get more playing time (but didn't), but then I thought our personnel should have been managed better all season long.
It's been awful quiet... What is the staff cooking up? Or have they left the kitchen?
I'm not so sure no news is good news.
SIU is the lone program in the Valley that has not had a head coaching change (Valpo) that is in this situation (no spring signees, still five open scholarships, and would be six if Brown had moved on like expected). I recognize Howard is expected to, in time, have a big recruiting impact, but both Mullins and Mamon have been on the job, so it definitely raises some eyebrows to be where they are in the last week of April.
I do think the dam will break soon because it has to ... SIU is not going to go into June with a depleted roster. The question, of course, is whether they are able to bring in enough impactful guys or have to start settling for fringe MVC pieces. The backcourt in particular is in dire need of starter-caliber additions.
Marquise Kennedy to UIC per his Instagram
I know there is some mixed opinion on here about Kennedy ... personally, I think he would have been a very strong add. But what there is no debate on is, at the moment, UIC has better guards than Southern (Kennedy plus the recent Colorado State transfer). And that's scary.
So yeah, work to do.
