Tough break for UIC. If they were going to start building with their young core, a big piece of it just left.

Not a surprise in this era but, yeah, not good for them, to state the obvious. If Yaklich doesn't show some improvement next year, I'd imagine his seat will be warm.

Really like him, someone is getting a very good player. Sucks for MVC

Absolutely. Always felt like a long shot for UIC to keep him around, with the lack of success and him being from FL. He'll be a really solid addition to someone's roster. This really highlights how hard it is going to be for mid-major teams to build up their program from a perennial loser to contender. So much harder to keep young talent around when you struggle those first couple years.
Unless he transfers to another MVC school......like SIU. : ) That being said, I do not think he is staying in the MVC, but a guy can hope.
UIC is also losing Freshman PG Jalen Jackson who averaged 7.3 PPG

Maybe he ends up at The SIU! Good player.
UIC will never have that college rah rah feel. Huge school in a huge city, a cold monument-to-concrete campus, huge number of commuter students, etc.
Not sure how many college players want to play in a mostly empty arena with little student involvement.
Agree 1000%. Throw in NIL $ and it is all pretty disgusting. Highest bidders win.IMHO, this rule is killing college basketball. Free agency and college basketball don't blend.

NIL wouldn’t be as bad without the transfer portal.
The transfer portal wouldn’t be as bad without NIL.
But with both… this just sucks.
Burns is a headcase. Murray is undisciplined and poorly coached. Not sure if we want another thread for Valley transfers, but Jamari Smith has already said he’s leaving Murray State.
He is “going professional. “
that’s a big loss for the Racers. He was their possessions and shots leader. They’ll need to get another big in the portal. I do like their 3 guards and Burns
I think Burns gets a little too wound up. Wasn't it him who fouled Tucker DeVries 80 feet from the basket when he was heaving the ball at the basket as the half ended?

Anything on any of our players?
Big loss for UIC...and of course not good for The Valley as a whole. The transfer portal and NIL are just ridiculous. It's going to create more divides in college athletics. I'm ready for the mid-majors to start doing their own thing and pull out of the NCAA Tournament. I get it, money talks, but it's ridiculous when the mids can't typically get home and home series with power 5 schools which puts them at HUGE disadvantage when trying to make the tournament.

Who is going to fund a league of mid majors? No tournament money, and quite a few can’t even get good crowds. If you take away NCAA distributions, all kinds of programs become money losers. Also, what recruit wants to join a school with no shot at March Madness? This makes no sense.
NIL is one thing but a lot of mid-majors have taken advantage of the portal. There are guys at high-majors that drop down and have seen success at the mid-major level. I haven't seen SIU have that kind of success yet with the portal. Their best gets are Barret Benson in year 1 (huge hit!) and Ben Coupet (pretty good hit). Drake lost Liam Robbins and Yesufu to the portal and haven't skipped a beat.

You’re basically describing FCS football.
