Hensley has good size and is a decent athlete. At the very least he's good depth to have. We have 4 spots to fill. They aren't all going to be superstars. If the staff wants him, then I'm fine with him

@barkeep-1967 not bashing anyone, may not even be same guy.  after your post stating everyone would be happy, as well as the random tweet on twitter saying we were in on some big 10 guys,  I guess I just had higher hopes , guess we will see what happens

I guess some of you guys don’t like 6’8” PFs who can jump over 12’ and were 4-star recruits coming out of HS.

I’m not sure that everyone realizes what Hensley brings to the table. He was a top 150 recruit out of high school. How many of them have we had at siu. He’s been battered with injuries the past couple years and never really got going. Not hating on any of our bigs, but he seems like he would be above any of the bigs we have now. He’s a Gonzaga style of big guy. Hopefully we can pick up some more guards too tho cause it seems we’re stuck right now with Miller, brown, and Xavier as our only guards. Have to ask the question tho…. How have we gone another year without a John A player coming to siu? Makes no sense to me

I’m hoping for more of an emphasis on high school recruiting for the next class.  They’ve been much better at that than portal recruiting but they only seem to land 1 guy a class.  I know there’s always a risk with the portal but the current strategy isn’t really working.

I'm actually fine with Trey Miller and the other names linked including Sharp, I think there's some potential there going forward, but this team is really missing an impact player right now with the loss of 2 top 15 players in the conference.  If the offseason ends with those 3 being added and eating the final 1-2 scholarships, I can't imagine this team is anything better than 7th in an improved Valley.

Although not the biggest NFL fan, as a kid I always admired the Bengals helmet, and always wondered how many stripes were actually on that helmet. Also wondered about Mr. Red's bobble head being a baseball with a face? Super cool.

To be fair, they haven't been that good in recruiting period.  Let's allow the new recruiting coach, who's reputation precedes him, some time to do his job.  Our recruiting has been poor, but we have a massive upgrade so what we did in the past shouldn't necessarily be expected in the future.

Also, I think it would help if we wait to see what/who they bring in before frequently predicting us in the bottom of the Valley.  I cannot say they won't finish 6th, 7th, 8th, etc.  But I can say that it just doesn't seem to make sense to guess now, it's premature.  I think that's the fair thing to do.

I saved this comment for last intentionally bc it won't be popular.   I think you're giving at least one of the departing players too much credit.  I am actually excited to see what this offense (once we have a FULL TEAM) can do without a sub 30% shooter jacking up the vast majority of shots.  Miller has a flat looking outside jumper and still shot better than our departing SG, and he was a freshmen.  He's younger, good defensively and can distribute the ball.   Oh, and I am GUESSING that he will not be the best or even 2nd best recruit brought in this Spring so just give it a few weeks.

Even in a down year, Lance was still All-MVC 3rd team and All-MVC Defense and ended up at Purdue.  I do think more balanced scoring is going to be better than having Jones and Domask taking most of the shots but I'm not sure where that scoring is coming from and Jones and Domask bailing out the rest of the team was necessary.

In my opinion, Jones hurt us more than he helped us this year.  Yes, he carried us in a few games.  But more often, he went 0-for-8, 1-for-10, or whatever.  Hard to overcome that with our low-scoring offense.  I’ll be glad to see those outside shots going to someone else next year.

@insaluki  agreed and Purdue will use him in a totally different way than we did.

I believe the main, if not only, reasons he got 3rd team were his defense and conference name recognition.  His offensive efficiency was really poor as was his shot selection. Purdue grabbed him for the potential of his Soph season and his defense.  If he were a freshmen, playing the way he did last year, he wouldn't have gotten offers from any conference above the Valley.  If he plays like he did his Soph year, he will make some noise in the B10 for sure.  if he plays like he did last year, he'll be riding the bench.

FYI

Domask took the most shots. He had three games where he scored 5 pts., one game where he scored 7, one game where he scored 8. Four of those 5 games were losses. We beat Evansville without him.

No question Jones shot the three poorly and jacked up a lot of shots he shouldn't have, but he had the green light from BM and most the time he was trying to rescue a poor offensive performance by the team. He shot 50% on non-three trys.

Some on here are under the impression that LJ's poor 3 pt shooting is the reason we weren't in the post season when the truth is that without Jones, we would not have been close to making the post season. He scored well in a lot of games and always played great D.

Lance Jones was the leading scorer in 18 of our 33 games. (54.5%)

Trey shot 30% from three with a much weaker schedule - Our Lady of the Lake, Dallas Christian, Houston Christian??... Had quite a few steals though. Very good FT shooter. Probably his most impressive game was 12 pts against KState in a 48 pt. loss.  He was a true freshman. If he turns out to be as good as Lance (two-time 3rd team MVC, two time All-Defensive team, twice led the MVC in steals, once led the MVC in 3 pt. shooting), and I hope he is, I'll be overjoyed.

Purdue is #17 in ESPN's way-too-early rankings. If Edey comes back, they're in the top 5. Good for Jones.
