Final from Banterra...

SIU 76

Murray  66

Martin with 24, Silvey kicked in 20.

Somewhat uneven game Southern was up by 14+ most of the game. Got a bit lazy, let them get within 5 towards the end. Murray's top player dropped 31 on us.

We did miss enough bunnies to have blown them clean out of the gym. But it was a nice win. Brockmeyer with an off game only two FT's, had a couple of nice blocks.

On to DeKalb for the Compass Challenge. WIU gets next.

"Dissapointing" 90-44 win for the ladies today. 😉 Beating NAIA William Woods today. Payton McCallister lead the way with 21. Everyone scored. Silvey only had 1 point😁. Second unit looked pretty good as they got most of the minutes. This was the #18 ranked team in NAIA.

On to Valley play Friday at Valpo! I have high hopes for this squad.

Not sure why they played an exhibition game during the season.  Only opens up the opportunity to get somebody hurt.

Anybody can get hurt in any game. After a nine day layoff this probably wasn't the best team to play, but it may have been the only game we could get here at home. With another five days to The Valley opener this wasn't the worst way to knock off the rust/holiday feasting.

Interesting story here:

https://www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/28397147/which-mid-major-races-highest-stakes-women-college-basketball

Over the years, I believe that women's basketball at SIU is at least tied for first as the most underperforming squad.

They should be better this year. A lot better. I guess the above link contains intel that they're fifth or sixth in the Valley.

If they're only a bit above average (whatever that is), perhaps change is in order.

Your thoughts?

(1) US COVID-19 statistics (February 29, 2020-June 16, 2020): 2,124,000 reported cases and 115,052 deaths
(2) Donald Trump (June 15, 2020) told a group of senior citizens that there would be very few cases of COVID-19 if the US stopped its testing and contact tracing: "If we stop testing right now, we'd have very few cases, actually."
(3) Donald Trump [(Jan 20, 2020), when asked if he's worried about a pandemic]: “No. Not at all. And we have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s — going to be just fine.”

We are quite a bit above average. Our RPI is in the 50s in a top-6 conference.  We have put up our best non-conference record since the 80s.

I agree that it is time to start producing some post-season appearances, but we are a good team in a good conference.

U...G...L...Y game at Loyola today. Lost 51-49. Kinda reminded me of our loss at ISUr last season. Nelson with 15, but she scored 10 of those in the last three or so minutes.

Silvey was shut down, only 2pts. Had several chances in the last minute to win it but came up empty.

Tough home stand coming up next weekend. UNI and Drake. Would like to see more than 400 buts in seats for those.

C'mon ladies, bounce back from this loss and take care of business.  Huge opportunity to make the post season.
