Welcome to the 24-25 season.

Season gets underway tonight at 6pm in Alabama as we travel to Auburn. Games is televised on SECN+/ESPN+.

Like the men's team there are many new faces - eleven of them in fact. This team is much bigger than teams we've had in recent editions. Down low we go 6'1", 6'2", 6'3", 6'4" & 6'5". As you see we actually have post depth this year. Something I can't remember having in quite a while - if ever.

There is a distinct international flavor to this team as we have players from Canada, Denmark, Sweden and four from Nigeria.

The drawback is this team is young - seven freshmen. Of our posts, only two are not freshman. 6'2" sophomore returnee Angela Samuel (who saw limited time last year due to a knee injury) and 6'3" junior Gift Uchenna (from Nigeria) a transfer from a university in Taipei, Taiwan. Uchenna and our freshman Euro imports both have extensive international play experience.

There are only three seniors/graduate students. 5'8" Senior guard Tyranny Brown who has been here since her Freshman year. 5'5" Senior point guard Se'Quoia Allmond, who came in last year from Loyola Marymount. And 5'10" Graduate guard Jeniah Thompson from nearby Carterville. Some of you may remember Thompson originally committed here to SIU during the COVID season, left to play at Logan, then to Wichita State and is using her COVID year here.

We have another local player originally from Sikeston, MO - Karris Allen a 6' junior guard transfer from Western Kentucky.

Very interested to see how this team plays. Coach says we have good shooters, length and speed.

GO DAWGS!

I'll cover some of the other new faces in a later post. Kinda rushed this one. Didn't think I would get to doing this this season.

Well - things were going OK. Then Thompson went down with a shoulder injury then Auburn went on a run.

Halftime

TIGERS 27

DAWGS 15

Uchenna looks like a solid post. Gaines could be a player.  Curman, the Danish player, looks solid as the primary ball handler. If Thompson's shoulder injury is serious that could be a problem.

Auburn D is impressive. They've forced 15 turnovers.

Oops. Sorry. Curman is Swedish not Danish.

Final

Auburn 65

SIU 31

This could have gone better. Auburn didn't shoot well...until halfway through the third then got hot. We couldnt hit shit. Shot 20%
