Let's hope that the media does a better job of covering DeAnna's efforts in Tokyo than the piss-poor job they did in covering her record-setting performance in Oregon. I realize that the hammer (as well as shot and discus) are not the glamour events in track and field, but there are many of us that would like to watch some of the competition...not just the winning toss!
Hammer throw begins on Sunday, August 1st.
(1) US COVID-19 statistics (February 29, 2020-June 16, 2020): 2,124,000 reported cases and 115,052 deaths
(2) Donald Trump (June 15, 2020) told a group of senior citizens that there would be very few cases of COVID-19 if the US stopped its testing and contact tracing: "If we stop testing right now, we'd have very few cases, actually."
(3) Donald Trump [(Jan 20, 2020), when asked if he's worried about a pandemic]: “No. Not at all. And we have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s — going to be just fine.”
Kick some world A$$ DeAnna!!!
@saloukeyfan To quote Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, "I second that emotion."

March on triumphantly!

She didn't exactly throw her best, but qualified for the finals at the prelims today. Gwen B. also qualified for the finals. Just like 2016, 2 lady Salukis in the hammer finals!!!
I hoping once she had a qualifying mark, she dialed it back to save the effort for the finals.
So awesome to see two Salukis in the finals. Very cool to see Saunders repping SIU after getting silver in shotput too. DeAnna was fairly steady in her throws, with nothing spectacular. Gwen struggled at first then clutched up with a great qualifying throw on her third/final throw. Hoping to see both of them on the podium. Every Saluki accomplishment is a culmination of all of our work in direct and indirect ways.
They just revealed on Peacock that Deanna Price has been competing with a broken foot injury suffered after US olympic qualifying. I figured something had to be wrong after her somewhat sub-par olympic qualifying round throws. Very impressive she still qualified for the finals!
Deanna Price faults on her 1st throw. Gwen Berry throws 67.66 and sits in 6th after the 1st round throws. They showed the introductions on Peacock, but so far aren't showing any of the hammer throw finals live.
Deanna Price throws 72.87 in the 2nd round and sits in 7th. Gwen Berry faults on her 2nd round throw. Price in 7th and Berry in 12th after 2nd round.
Deanna was in 8th after 3rd round to barely advance to the final 3 rounds. She doesn't improve on her 4th throw. Gwen Berry doesn't advance and finishes 11th. Announcers say Deanna's foot is really bothering her.
Deanna fouls on her 5th throw. It doesn't look good for her. Still sitting in 8th with 1 throw left. Gold sits at 78.48 and silver sits at 75.49, throws well within Deanna's range when she is healthy. It's a real shame she is injured!
Deanna throws 73.09 on her 6th and final throw. She will finish 8th. Incredible effort with a broken foot! A real shame as the medal throws were easily achievable for a healthy Deanna Price. Gutsy effort by our Saluki and Carbondale resident to even finish the competition and make it to the finals.
Congratulations to DeAnna Price and Gwen Berry for making the hammer throw finals. I am so impressed with DeAnna Price's effort, now that it has been revealed she was competing injured. It was never mentioned (to my knowledge) and therefore never used as an excuse. Don't know how she even could spin with a foot injury, but still managed to finish 8th.
I am now, as ever, so proud to be a Saluki.
