Congratulations to Redshirt Senior Shauniece O'Neal on becoming a First Team All American in the weight throw at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship.  Under the tutelage of Coach JC Lambert, O'Neal had a strong series yesterday and was third after the prelims and uncorked a 22.77m (71'-5.25") toss on her final throw.  It landed her in 7th place in the competition and she became the initial First Team  All American under Head Coach Rosalind Joseph.

Always proud to be a Saluki.

Congrats to Shauniece O'Neal for becoming the latest Saluki to be a First Team All-American weight thrower!  Continuing an SIU tradition in the event!  And congrats to Coach Lambert too.

Go Dawgs!

Also a Congratulations to Senior A'veun Moore-Jones on becoming a Second Team All-American in the Shot Put event!  She finished 14th with her best put of the day at 15.99m (52'-5.5")!

A few years ago we traveled down to Lexington, KY, to visit our daughter and see the Dawgs take on UK and a 1/2-dozen other schools on a cold, wet, dank Saturday morning  at the UK track complex.  The Dawgs did quite well in that day in the throws with several winners.  While walking around I talked to several people wearing maroon & Salukis gear; including the parents of A'veun.   Very nice people who had nothing but good to say about the coaching staff and SIU.  They were rightfully quite proud, but respectfully humble too, of A'veun's accomplishments.  Ever since then I also looked for her name in the track results following each meet to see how well she fared.  And now I'm so glad to see A'veun's success and know her parents are even more proud of her success now.

Go Dawgs!
