Big win!

MO St 49
Mak with 20. Gabby with 13. And Q Love with 12!!!
If you told me Abby would only have 8. I would have said we lose. This was a total team effort. GREAT DEFENSE! Can't wait for the Sunday re-match in Springfield.

Glad to see them with a strong start to conference play. Keep it going!
Proud Saluki, living and working in Kansas State territory. 🤔
Harry Schroeder of Valley Hoops Insider did an interview with Cindy Stein before these two games:
No TV for this rescheduled game. That's a head scratcher since they've known about the new date for two weeks.

Damn, sounds like this game is just brutal physical. Every time on D we get called for a freaking foul.
Fouls are 20 SIU 15 on the Bears

Wow. Sounds like shitty reffing. Refs calling fouls on us on nearly every defensive play. Mak knocked down on a potential game winner. Randle knocked down on an over the back on the rebound.
We don't score for over 4 minutes.

We fall to 7-2 in The Valley behind ISU (9-2) and UNI (8-2). On to Indiana State Wednesday and the only team we haven't seen yet in Valley play. This is also a COVID make up game.

SIU vs Indiana State 5pm, Wednesday 2/9 at Hullman Center (Magic 95.1 & ESPN+)
Series History:
This is the 101st meeting between the Salukis and the Sycamores. We hold a 54-46 lead in the series winning the last six including a 90-88 overtime win the last time out at The Valley Tournament. This is the first time we have seen the Sycamores this year due to a COVID cancellation.
Overview Of Indiana State:
The Sycamores are coached by fifteen year coaching veteran Chad Killinger in his first season at the helm of ISU. His only other D-1 head coaching experience was as an interim coach at East Carolina. Killinger has mostly been a JUCO head coach. So far this season he has doubled the number of wins from all of last year. ISU lost their leading scorer and rebounder Adrian Folks to injury before the turn of the calendar.

The Sycamores As A Team:
ISU Blue averages 65.9ppg good for 5th in the conference overall. In conference play only, they average 68.6ppg which leads The Valley. They shoot at a 43% clip good for 3rd, and shoot the three at 31.5 % good for sixth. Overall they don’t shoot many threes. They are 7th in free throw shooting percentage at .701. Defensively they allow 63.2ppg which is 7th in the league. The Sycamores allow opponents to shoot at a 42% clip which is 8th, and allow 31% from deep which is fifth. They only have a +1 margin on the boards 34 to 33. They are last in blocks, last in assist to turnover ratio. The Sycamores are first steals, and forced turnovers, but they cough up the ball quite a bit as they are 9th in turnovers. They have used eight different starting lineups in twenty games.
Meet the Sycamores:
Del’Janae Williams is a 5-8 Jr. guard and leading scorer at 13.7ppg is 2nd in steals at 2.3 a game
Marie Hunter is next in scoring at 10.6ppg and 4th in steals
Their top post player is Mya Glanton a 6’ redshirt sophomore averaging 7.2ppg and 5.4 rebounds per game.
How The Sycamores Can Hurt Us:
They are ball hawks. Leading the conference in forced turnovers and steals they seem they can pester the ball handler. They are pretty much average and below average on everything else.
How We’re Doing:
After the weekend split with Missouri State we have fallen back with the other two-loss teams at the top of the Valley. This game is important to keep pace with ISU Red and UNI in the loss column. UNI comes to town Friday night. As I typed before, this is the first time we have seen ISU Blue this year; they are 4-4 at home. We’re 4-6 on the road, but two of our losses came at the hands of two top 15 teams and one point losses to Missouri State and C-USA’s Middle Tennessee State. Our three point shooting has improved greatly over the last two games. We went from last to seventh more than doubling our percentage (Which is not saying much because it was pretty dismal from 13% in Valley play to 29%.) Its also been encouraging over the last three games to see some production from our other starters and bench players. Keep this up and we can kind of absorb an off night from one of our Big Three.
