BLOWOUT!

SIU 79

ISU Blue 55

Awesome comeback after the MSU loss.

Love with a career high 24. Abby with her 11th (?) Double double 20 and 11. Gabby back on track with 16 after a goose egg at MSU. Mak with a bit of a clunker with 9. Ten pts off the bench.

Kinda gave the Trees a bit of thier own medicine. They lead the conference in steals and turnovers forced. We spanked them in both categories. We had 14 steals to thier 6. Forced them into 18 turnovers  to our 9.

Big showdown Friday night at Banterra with UNI coming to town. Looking to avenge a loss at McLeod and to put UNI in the rear view mirror.

SIU vs Northern Iowa 6pm, Friday 2/11 at Banterra Center  (Magic 95.1 & ESPN+)

Series History:

The Panthers have now won nine straight against us with their 66-57 win back on January 15th in Cedar Falls. UNI came out and gut punched us shooting 75% in the first quarter rolling to a 30-11 lead. There was a bright spot: Over the last three quarters we outscored them 46-36 and got within a bucket twice but couldn’t get over the hump.

Overview Of UNI:

The Panthers continue to be one of the more well-rounded teams in The Valley. They’ve won six straight, but they only have one upper division win in that span, a seven point win at Illinois State to start their current streak,

Current Valley Standings/NET rankings as of 2/10

1) Illinois State 10-2 (14-9) / 127 NET

2) UNI 9-2 (16-6) / 47 NET

3) SIU 8-2 (13-7)/ 75 NET

4) Missouri State 7-3 (16-5) / 41 NET

5) Indiana State 5-5 (10-11) / 185 NET

6) Valpo 6-6 (8-15)/ 243 NET

7) Loyola 4-7 (12-10) /113 NET

8) Drake 4-7 (12-10) / 94 NET

9) Evansville 1-10 (7-15) / 286 NET

10) Bradley 1-11 (4-17) / 277 NET

UNI Probable Starters:

All-Conference guard Karli Rucker 13ppg

G Nicole Kroeger

F Bree Gunells

G Kam Finley 11.4 ppg

F Grace Bofelli the current Valley POTW

Other Key Players

G Emerson Green

G Maya McDermott

They’re not overly big. But they are well disciplined, fast and stick to their assignments. They shoot a lot of threes and if they get hot like they did in the last game it could be a bit of bother for us.

How We’re Doing:

Obviously this is a big game, but this time its on our turf where we are undefeated at home. After the impressive win at Indiana State on Wednesday night (a nice rebound game after the one point loss at MSU) in which we were up by 30 before garbage time, and an off night by Makenzie Silvey (9 points but she had 7 assists) we look to put UNI a loss behind us and keep the now 10-2 Redbirds within sight here in the second half of the Valley schedule. This is our fourth game in eight days. Our improved strength and conditioning program this year will really need to show up this weekend. Quierra Love had the hot hand against the Sycamores with a career-high 24 points and she has been playing with a lot of offensive confidence the past few games. Her on the ball defense is one of the best in The Valley and she is an excellent ball handler. Abby had another double-double, 20&11, her tenth of the season and Gabby Walker had a nice rebound game with 16 points after her goose egg at MSU. Others on the team have shown up offensively in recent games taking some of the scoring burden off our Big Three.

GO DAWGS!!

Vry little Mak in the first half due to foul trouble. But good amounts of Gabby and Abby and bench play

This would be a big win if we can finish it.  Silvey played just 11 minutes and we extended the lead with her on the bench.  We need to clean up the problems on the defensive glass, but otherwise we are looking solid!

Uh-oh. Here comes UNI. Couple of weird calls. Didn't understand a flagrant 1 on Gabby. All it looked like to me was the Panther just ran into the back of her and they got tangled up.  Will have to see that one later on the replay.

6 minutes left in the 3rd.

End of 3. And yet another official review because a Panther fell down.

SIU 46

UNI 39

But yet they won't review when one of ours gets mugged.

This officiating crew needs to back off.  They are way too whistle happy.

I think I'm going to change the quote in my signature...

Oh yeah - other than this being a big win for us...

Now the Panthers have to go Missouri State on Sunday. Good luck.

Thing are getting exciting.

I think I have seen just 2 games this season but this was a fun one.

I really miss those games in the 80s at Davies Gym.

That place was insane with the SRO crowds.

I was impressed tonight.

Really good defense.

Pretty good shooting.

Cool that were a half game out of 1st.

I guess I will watch this team down the stretch.

RPI is up to 52.
