Pretty amazing season so far.  What is SIU planning to do in terms of replacing Cindy Stein after this season?  Do they keep it internal now and is there anyone on the staff ready to take over?

Jody Adams-Birch should get another shot as a head coach. She had some success at Wichita State.

The Lady Salukis are having a great season.  Love to see it. There's sending Coach Stein out on an upswing.  Hopefully SIU brings the right coach in to keep the program trending up.

It depends about how you define success.  She certainly has proven she knows how to win games.  But she left the program in shambles as players complained of abusive behavior by her and she was terminated.  Players that won MVC championships talked about how they only stayed at Wichita for their teammates, and that their live were miserable playing for her.  Add to that the incident years ago in her previous stint as an assistant and there are legitimate issues to be considered.  Some feel that if named Head Coach that it is only a matter of time before the abusive behavior would start again.  i believe in 2nd and 3rd chances but not necessarily when the lives of young female student athletes are affected.   Perhaps she is better off serving as an assistant under someone who will not tolerate abusive behavior, rather than serving as a head coach with the freedom it brings.  Young lives are too precious to risk just for the sake of winning basketball games.

Nice pounding of the Redturds! Love it!

Mo State is one game back. We both play the same 4 teams in the remaining schedule.

INSU, Evansville here. Loyola, Valpo there. We beat all those teams once already.

Go Dawgs!

with the exception of this season we have been fairy average over cindy's tenure.  everyone likes cindy and she's a great person.  we should definitely open it up instead of automatically hiring internally.  not to take anything away from this amazing run but let's remember that we were picked to finish near the bottom. if the best applicant is internal then fine, but we need to look at what is available.  it makes me a little nervous having an interim AD making the hire (his first?) he's a smart guy but could scare off some applicants knowing that they would immediately have a new AD to work for. that can wait for another day though.  let's win the league and get to the NCAA tourney. that should help attract some decent candidates. we lose some pretty great players after the season so it won't be easy out of the gate.

SIU vs Indiana State 6:00 pm, Thursday 2/24 at Banterra Center (Magic 95.1 & ESPN+)

Series History:

Last time out – We extended our string of wins to seven over ISU Blue with a 79-55 win in Terre Haute. Quierra Love scored a career-high 24 in that game. Abby Brockmeyer had a 20 &12 double-double. Anna McKendree came off the bench for the Sycamores and had a team high 18 points. Their leading scorer Del’Janae Williams was held to 8 points.

Overview Of Sycamores:

ISU Started out the conference season as one of the surprise teams at 5-3 through February fourth. They have not won a game since – six straight losses. They lost their last game 74-69 at home to Valpo. Mya Glanton had a 25 &14 double double in that game. The Sycamores are rather adept at steals. They lead the league at 10.2 steals per game, in our previous game with them we held them to only 6 steals and we had 14. They basically run in the middle of the pack in other statistical categories with the exception of blocks (last). Assist to turnover ratio (last). Indiana State is 6-7 on the road overall and 3-4 on the road in conference games.

Warren Nolan.com has us as a -11 favorite with an 82% chance to win.

Probable Starters:

Del’Janae Williams 5-8 Jr G 13.2ppg

Marie Hunter 5-7 Grad G 9.7ppg

Caitlin Anderson 5-6 Jr G 6.5 ppg

Arianna Smith 6-2 Fr F 6.1 ppg

Mya Glanton 6-0 R-So F 7.4 ppg 6 rebounds per game

Current Valley Standings/NET/RPI as of 2/23

1) SIU 12-2 (17-7)/ 71 / 51

2) Missouri State 11-3 (20-5) / 40 / 32

3) Illinois State 11-4 (15-11) / 125 / 156

4) Northern Iowa 9-5 (16-9) / 53 / 76

5) Loyola 8-7 (16-10) / 116 / 171

6) Valpo 8-7 (10-16) / 236 / 275

7) Drake 5-9 (13-12) / 86 / 116

8) Indiana State 5-9 (10-15) / 204 / 264

9) Evansville 2-12 (8-17) / 286 / 319

10) Bradley 1-14 (4-20) / 280/ 324

How We’re Doing:

Coach Stein is now over .500 in her career at Southern at 132-131. In the last game Mak surpassed 1900 career points (1905.) Last weekend Abby passed 1000 career rebounds (1020 total) and is second all-time in that category behind Dyana Pierre’s 1218. Abby is only the seventh player in Valley history to surpass 1000 rebounds. Mak has fallen off as the leading scorer in the conference, but that’s not a bad thing as we have been getting scoring from the supporting cast, most notably from Quierra Love who has been averaging nearly 11 points a game over the last seven games.

It would be a massive understatement on my part to say this game is important. All four of our final games are critically important. Missouri State, who is our travel partner and one game back, has the exact same four opponents. This is going to be an epic finish to The Valley’s season! We are 9-0 (7-0 conference) at home on the season. This will be the last weekend we get to see these amazing ladies play at Banterra. If you can, let’s get out there and cheer them on!

GO DAWGS!!

I was more or less responding to SalukiWorld in regards to his query of internal candidates. I was just being polite in not re-hashing her past. I don't think that Coach Stein would have hired her without quite a few conditions both privately and included in her contract.

Don't know what's coming down the pipe recruit wise, but next year is looking like a rebuild year. So a young fire-pisser of a coach from outside might be the ideal candidate. In a recent interview Caitlin Link expressed some interest in coming back next year. Don't know about Payton McCallister. Those are the only two true fourth year seniors we have.

Have we heard if the game is still on for tonight? I know that the school is closed today because of the weather.

Pretty light crowd. Can't say that I blame people. Roads are fine. Windshield wipers didnt get frozen over while driving.

Kinda flat here in the first. Not sloppy. Just a bit flat. Missing some easy shots.

SIU 13

ISU Blue 12.

People trickling in. Turing into a somewhat normal crowd.
