LOL
That was brutal. Embarrassing butt-kicking! MTSU shot the H out of the ball - 57% and 11 -25 from three. That's a very good team. 27 - 8 last year and 4 wins in the NIT.
We were disorganized, poorly spaced, slow, couldn't shoot, etc. When you shoot only 24%, you usually get whipped.
This team beat our MVC Championship team by 1 point last year at their place.
Gonna take some time to get this team together. Lot of work for the new coach. Not sure we have replacements for Sylvie, Brockmeyer, and Walker. But we will improve I'm sure.
Salukis vs IUPUI Jaguars

Warren Nolan prediction: SIU -1
Well- After game one I said I was going to give an autopsy.
I lied.
So here we go with game two against the Jaguars of IUPUI. This is the fifth time we’ve faced the Jags, the series is tied at two apiece. The last time we played was in November 2019 and lost in Indy 81-78. It was a tightly contested game that had 10 ties and 13 lead changes. We were supposed to play them last year here, but they cancelled the game due to a COVID outbreak on their team.
The Jags finished 24-7 overall in 21-22, and 18-4 (first place) in the Horizon League. They won the Horizon Conference Tourney and lost to Oklahoma in the first round of the NCAA Tournament 78-72. Their marquee win last season was at nationally ranked Iowa. The Jags head coach was Austin Parkinson who left for Butler and handed the keys to a Division 2 coach in Kate Bruce. IUPUI has started 1-2 with their first win coming this past Sunday against Butler and their previous head coach. They’ve lost to Louisville and MVC newcomer and Horizon League departee UIC.
The Jaguars Vitals:
Like us, the Jags lost a few members of their core players from a year ago and have four seniors and two graduate players on their team. They have seven players that are 6’ and taller. IUPUI is picked to finish sixth in the Horizon and only has one player on the pre-season all-conference team. They are led by 6’2” F Jazmyn Turner and her 13 ppg / 5.7rpg. Their second leading scorer is Natalie Anderson, a 6' C that averages 10.3 ppg. The team is shooting at a .340 clip giving up a .485 shooting percentage.
After the MTSU game their head coach said we have quite a bit of talent, but the lack of chemistry was obvious. Team Chemistry doesn’t happen overnight, let’s hope we make strides towards cohesiveness in this game and beyond. We got flustered by MSTU’s press that started basically from the tip and it all fell apart from there. Injuries: Don’t know the status of team Captain Adrianna Katcher (left foot in walking boot), USC transfer Shemera Williams and Sophomore Paige Clubb. None of the three dressed for the exhibition and MTSU.
Its just a matter of time before this team gets in synch. Let’s be patient and show them our support and show up loud and proud!
GO DAWGS!!!

@rabidsaluki Yeh it was very obvious that our players hadn't played together much. We also shot very poorly - hopefully that will be much improved this game. Gonna take some time to improve.
Expected MVC champ Belmont lost a close game to #7 Louisville, and Drake took #6 Iowa and Caitlin Clark to OT. Some really good women's teams in the MVC this year.
Hmmm. Several players MIA from the bench. Only 9 dressed.

The chances of women's basketball winning a game this season are slim to none. I've never seen such horrendous passes. There is absolutely no discipline whatsoever, just a bunch of people running around chucking the ball into the stands and drilling shots into the rim.
Well that was better...

Defense looks better. Offense has tightened up a bit. Still some stagnation, but better. Brown leading the way with 16. Frosh Mason is gonna be a fun player to watch.

Bummer
Better effort. But too many missed defensive switches and too many missed bunnies.

Hmmm. This just popped into my so-called mind.
SIU football basically got blown out in thier opener then lost a tight second game. Then went to Northwestern and surprisingly won.
Lady Salukis get blown out in opener, lost a tight game last night. Guess who thier next opponent is?
Yup - Northwestern!
One can only hope, right!

Northwestern?? LOL That will be one ugly loss.
We were up 4 at the start of the 4th, but just couldn't get stops. 1st 5 minutes of the game looked like a replay of that first awful game, but played much better after that. I thought Coach should have played Seairra Hughes more in the 4th. Really liked what I saw from her, and she's quick, which is something our forwards are sorely lacking.
@mr_woogers Yeah, it very well may be a another ass-kicking. But that's what we said would happen to the football team too.
Like I said - we can only hope!

Warren Nolan has Northwestern as a -7 favorite (69-62)
After a close call and marked improvement against IUPUI, we head out on the road for the first time. We have some history with the Wildcats but its been some time since we played them. Southern is 1-9 against NU with the only win coming in 1977. NU is helmed by long-time coach Joe McKeown who is in his 15th season at NU and 37th season coaching overall. NU went 17-12 (8-8) last year. No information on NU’s preseason ranking on either their website or the Big10’s page.
Like us NU is off to a rough start, losing at #20 Oregon 100 – 57, and losing at home to Fighting Irish of South Bend Junior College 92-58. Their lone win is against Ivy League member Penn, 63-55.
The Wildcats Dramatis Personae –
The Wildcats are led – so far – by 6’3” Sophomore Caileigh Walsh and her 10.3ppg and 5 rpg. She scored 15 points in their opener and hasn’t done much since. Their next leading scorer is Kaylah Rainey a Senior guard from Belleville, IL who’s averaging 7.7ppg. Their next scorer is at 6.3ppg.
The team is averaging just over 59ppg and giving up 82ppg. The Wildcats are shooting at .351 clip and allowing opponents to shoot just over 45%. They are making just over 5 three’s a game at 32% shooting. Not a very good free throw shooting team at 57.7%. NU coughs up the ball at 16 turnovers a game.
Salukis Looked Better –
After a rough first 5 minutes of the IUPUI game we tightened up our game and made some steps in the right direction. Sophomore Tyranny Brown had a big second quarter scoring 14 of her game -and career- high 21 points. Freshman Jaidynn Mason impressed in her first start with 13 points and 5 rebounds. She’s a slick ball handler with speed. We had two others in double figures (Tamara Nard 13pts/5 rbs and Aja Holmes 11pts off the bench.) On paper we beat IUPUI in nearly every category. We only had 10 turnovers, and out rebounded the Jags 43-30. Where they got us was three point shooting – they were 13-26. So far we’ve been making our opponents three point shooting look like Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.
Sydney Prochaska and Ashley Jones were not at the IUPUI game, Paige Clubb and Shemera Williams were on the bench but not dressed as well as Adrianna Katcher. Her foot injury has been described as a stressed foot injury, not a stress fracture. Coach Bond-White was clear in her description of the injury.
Not holding too much hope for a win in our first road game, but according the four A’s Theorem of Basketball….Anyone Can Beat Anybody, Anytime or Anywhere.
GO DAWGS!

Not feeling good today. Sounds like we got off to a slow start again. Down 9-0. Down 12 after 1. Looks like we've basically played them to a draw since.
78-64 3 and change to go.
Taylor having a game. 20 pts 5 boards.
Jones with 14.

At least we haven't let them go crazy from three. NU is 7-15 from 3. We're out rebounding them. 42-35.
84-69 35 seconds left.
