The first half last night was one of the best in recent memory, which is saying something.

DJ looked like he might be one of the best QBs in the country out there. The lines dominated. Lewis and Hezekiah looked like big talents.

Hopefully that’s a glimpse of what’s to come this season.

All that without 3 captains playing, by the way, as Hill eluded to in his presser.

I didn’t watch the whole presser. Did he say anything about the extent of DJ’s injury? It would be a real downer to lose him for even part of the season.

Hill said it was either a dislocated finger or broken finger and they would have X Rays to diagnose. Not good. Hopefully it's dislocated. It's on his throwing hand so even if it's just dislocated he could miss a little time. If it's broken we are talking 4-6 weeks at a minimum.

I only have 1 question but why do coaches always get tight and try to shorten the game by taking the air out of the ball. I was at the game last night and the Dawgs were rolling in the 1st half dominating the game and I understand half time adjustments but to change your game plan offensively and defensively and play not to lose instead of going for the knockout always baffles me I believe in being aggressive if it would have worked maybe certain players wouldn't have been in the game to get banged up with injuries we had a few key players on both sides of the ball on the sideline during crunch time but the next up mentality paid off last night but injuries might be effecting the depth of this team when the hardest part of their season is still ahead just my two cents for what it is worth

I think the biggest problem is they lost their top 2 RB's and eventually their QB.  They couldn't get anything going and when they did, they blew the kick like they've done all 3 weeks so far this year.  And then they didn't even bother kicking the next time.  The game could have been put away early if they had a kicking game.

Not sure if anyone has heard anything yet about the plethora of injuries we’ve had, but most importantly the DJ. I hope it’s just a dislocated finger although, seeing his hand as he walked to the sideline I’m not super hopeful. It really felt like the offense had finally started to gel Saturday, so losing him long term would be a big setback.

That would also put us in a really precarious situation at QB with only one true Freshman as a backup with Lindauer medically retiring.

I was surprised we didn’t bring in a transfer that would be serviceable as an emergency type QB. Probably hard to sell kids on that opportunity in today’s era of sports.
If no DJ, I’m not very confident in QB room just strictly from a depth perspective. We are one play from having 1 QB and he’s a freshman.

Tough losing DJ this early just when he was coming into his own and showing us what he is capable of.  That being said, don't sleep on Simmons.  He is a different type of QB, but capable of leading the offense and getting good results.

That is not good news for the dawgs. Sounded like DJ could return at some point.
Looks like for now we will have 2 available QBs for the foreseeable future.
I completely trust Simmons if he stays healthy. Hopefully the injuries that kept Simmons out of spring practices and a few fall camp practices are long gone.
I’m guessing with the bye week DJ could possibly return with 3 maybe 4 games left? We are really one play from having 1 QB in uniform.  Not a good feeling.

Bummer - DJ showed some of the best talent at QB I've seen here in a long time. Simmons has not impressed me, but he's only played a few series. Everyone says he's good so getting more time should help him get in the groove.

Go Dawgs! Whip SEMO!

Really sucks about DJ. Let's see what Simmons can do. He's got some really good receivers and is supposed to have a good arm. The part that really hurts is he isn't as dynamic a runner or as mobile as DJ and our O line hasn't been giving our QB much time or protection this year so far. He'll have to get rid of the ball quickly and won't have quite as good escapability as DJ. If he can be accurate and stay health we may be ok.

Hill said Lester has a grade 1 ankle sprain. Sounded like he is moving around and may be available Saturday. Marrero tweaked his hamstring. Hill said he's already taking punts in practice so sounds minor. Hill said besides DJ there were no new major injuries, just lots of cramps. Going to be warm Saturday so hopefully they are better hydrated against cramps.

What I'd like to see Saturday is better O line protections for the QB and better pressure on the opposing QB from our defense. I think Simmons can be successful if he has time to throw the ball.

Go Dawgs!!!

Don’t forget a new holder for place kicks.

I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!

Most definitely agree with your post.

Count yours truly as being very disappointed in the news today. As some have mentioned, DJ was really starting to play well, and gel with our receivers. It certainly seems to me that our beloved university just can't catch a break. Simple mentality applies here: next man up. Mr. Simmons needs to manage the offense, stay within himself, and we'll be just fine.

GO DAWGS!!!

I’m so bummed by the DJ news. That first half on Saturday showed his potential. Damn.
