Thanks for posting that Saluki69 - that was a great read and brought back a lot of great memories too.
Go Dawgs!
Those playoff games were so miserable with the rain but a lot of fun. I remember the goal post parade down to PKs after the semifinal win.

I fully agree. The crush of students around the goal post insane(ly fun). As I recall the WX for the UNR game was especially nasty....
Go Dawgs!
I remember that one of the two was just December cold and the other was December cold plus raining.
The first game was cold with rain. The second playoff game versus Nevada-Reno was cold with freezing rain.
The guys I was at the game with got pretty toasted, as we did at most games. I knew I was at an epic event when towards the end of the game, with a thin layer of ice on every part of our bodies, I realized SIU was going to the national championship game. I started clapping... and my gloves deteriorated into a cloud of faux leather and rubber over everyone near us.
Didn't matter, euphoria rang supreme... Dawgs win!
I loved every second of it.

I remember this well. Was living in FL and was kind of amazed that it was on televised. I am sitting in my office at home looking at my glass beer mug with "NCAA 1AA National Champions 1983" on one side and "SIU, Southern Illinois University" on the other. One of my most prized possessions.
