Such a puzzle to me why this game is so forgotten. For me, despite the loss, this game will always be one of the highlights of Saluki football.
Yet no one seems to remember it. Weird. Anyway, here is the the Reis show the day after with the highlights.
How come no one seems to remember this one?

I remember it big time. Our QB took a bad sack at the end of the game (instead of throwing the ball away), which took us out of FG range, or we would have tied them. Made me sick. He played so well otherwise.
Illinois finished in 3rd in the Big 10 that year, ahead of Ohio St., who they also beat by 3 points in Champaign.
@mr_woogers I was there. Very exciting but heartbreaking.

They were expected to be a lot better than they wound up being. I think they were ranked #19 when we played them.

Then in 2013, we came back from 20 down to make the Farting Illini sweat. After getting to 42 - 34,
Kory Faulkner drove the Dawgs down to the Illinois 3 yard line with 44 secs. left. His pass on 4th down,
to make it 42 - 40, was a little high, although he played great most of the game.
Not that it matters, but they should of just handed the ball off to Byron Mitchell; they couldn't stop him the entire night, to set up a better spot for Ron Miller.
I was there what a game. The Illini folks were silent
Not all of them, apparently. A U of I buddy who was at the game told me that a lot of the U of I fans in his section were so p!ssed off (keeping in mind that great things were expected of that team that year) that they actually took up the "S-I-U!" chant along with the Saluki fans late in the game. 😆😆

I remember exiting the stadium and hearing a U of I fan yell derisively " Good luck next week playing the University of the southern Ozarks!" The game was really bittersweet.
as I recall we still attempted the field goal, but the sack had put the ball out of our kicker's range, remember 69? one guy who will never forget for the rest of his life------our quarterback.
Who? Kevin Brown?
don't remember. I'm old.
