I remember it quite well came home for the weekend to see my girlfriend, and we decided not to go as I thought SIU would get thumped. Ended up watching the game on tape delay, as U of I was on probation. Had no idea of the outcome, when her dad walked in and said, “SIU almost pulled off a big upset.” In reality he said it in jest, because he loathed me. Should of gave the ball to Byron.
Such a puzzle to me why this game is so forgotten. For me, despite the loss, this game will always be one of the highlights of Saluki football.
Yet no one seems to remember it. Weird. Anyway, here is the the Reis show the day after with the highlights.

Great game to see in person. I was fortunate enough to attend with a friend from high school that was attending u of i. u of i fans were filling their pants all the way up to the very end.
