NDSU has 2 problems as I see it.

#1 - Who would take them?

#2 - Is there a conference available that they won't have to go at least 1,000 miles every week for conference games? Same for baseball, basketball and minor sports.

They’re already going far enough when you start counting games outside the Dakotas. The Summit has some pretty long travel dates as well as it is.

D1 FBS football is well on their way to a complete disregard of geography though a western expansion of the MAC with NDSU and eventually SDSU would make a lot of sense. But knowing how this goes the Sun Belt will end up making NDSU an offer because they can go on the road and get big school scalps.

If I am NDSU, I'd worry about getting enough money for the minor sports to travel wherever they need to go.

Missouri State might be the 2nd best team in FCS.  They're taking it to #10 Arkansas.  Up 24-17 and driving heading into the 4th

Missouri State took a 10 point lead but Arkansas came back on 2 plays to cut it to 3 again.  11:38 left.  Only other time an FCS team has beaten a top 10 FBS team was Appalachian State at Michigan

Punter out-kicks the coverage and Arky runs it back for a TD. Hogs up 31-27.

Sounds like the dawgs needed to cleanup a few discipline issues off the field. Understandable when you are bringing in so many new faces. Whatever coach did this week he sure got their attention. Love to see it. I like this team better when they are the underdogs. Hope the team enjoyed it all night but now it’s time to focus on being 1-0 in the league.

We need to keep the up tempo Offense - nice rhythm. UND is a good team with a good QB in Schuster.

The Valley could always jump to FBS as a full unit. Granted, Youngstown and WIU probably wouldn't be on board.

Why? You'd be killing yourself financially to do that.

The amount of revenue that an FCS school would gain by going up a level would only be incrementally higher compared to the cost of 25-30 extra scholarships the school would have to pay for. Add to that the boondoggle that is those minor bowl games that cost the participating schools hundreds of thousands of dollars to play in.

IIRC FCS schools lose a lot more money than even lower tier FBS schools.

And even second rate bowls get more TV viewership than the FCS Championship.

There is a reason teams clamor to get to FBS and few drop down(and are generally special cases like Idaho).
