Sounds like the defense is having some great battles for 1’s and 2’s. That’s great news having depth. Hopefully the offense will get it going soon. Season is fast approaching and they are having problems with our D. QB battle for #2 has been primarily between Zabrowski and Simmons with Norton getting a few reps.
If that is the case, does the battle for QB #2 worry anyone else? Nothing against either guy, but a Freshmen and QB3 from last year? What has happened with our two FBS transfers? Has Norton not improved at all from last year being QB2? I know Lindauer was injured for Spring/Summer, but is he not showing anything? Maybe Zebrowski took a big step forward over the last year, but I've seen him throw a couple awful picks in those highlight videos they are putting out there.
@siu_2011 yes on the battle for QB2. Baker needs to stay healthy. Norton not in the mix to start the season but I’m sure it could change. Lindauer has been throwing in camp but coming off shoulder surgery.
Open scrimmage this Saturday. Looking forward to seeing the dawgs in action.
Awesome...hopefully we can get a decent report out from those that attend. Maybe even some coverage/analysis from the local paper! My wish/hope, the offense shows up and we have some nice give and take.
HERO Sports has SIU at #9 and did a full preview today:

Anyone know what time the scrimmage is or if they already had it?
RB Justin Strong with Mike Reis:
@siu_2011 it was at 6 pm.
defense played good even with a few guys sitting out. Offense did put up a few points. 17 total in 65 plays. Most series started around the offenses 35 or 40. Baker 3 drives that ended with punt, punt, Int. Zabrowski 2 drives both punts. Simmons 1 drive ended with QB 1 yard rushing TD, Norton 1 drive ended with 33 yard FG, Lindauer 1 drive ended with 35 yard TD pass,
Better showing for offense but lots of work to do. Defense has lots of pieces and depth.
Here’s hoping the offensive line and quarterback play are good enough to take advantage of the promising skill position players at wide receiver (once healthy) and running back. Pretty evident the defense has been well ahead of the offense in these scrimmages.

Thanks for the synopsis…glad we scored some points, but unfortunate it wasn’t by the 1’s. Now we wait for game 1 for them to prove it.

It won’t take long to find out area’s we need immediate improvement. IW is a big game between two teams that could find themselves looking back to week 1 on who gets a bid to the tournament. Huge early season implications.
No coverage on siusalukis.com! ☹️ Maybe tomorrow?
