My wife (who knows everything) said a lot of her friends are not pleased with the direction of our FB team.

Obviously this weekend will be a tall tasks. I hope we escape healthy and play a competitive game.
I’m not a fan who jumps off the wagon when the team isn’t playing as I expected. I guarantee every player and coach hurt all weekend. Great crowd, rivalry game, 1st home game, and the dawgs came up short. SEMO is a much better team than last year. I can also guarantee the dawgs went back to work early today to continue the process and to get better.
Good chance dawgs start conference season with 0 wins. Not ideal, but the fans can’t just give up and move on to basketball. That’s a weak minded gutless fan who I’m guessing never played sports or took his ball and went home when things got tough.
Can’t wait to head to Evanston Saturday. Then after that game we have 8 very important conference games.

the bobber, although still a very young man, doesn't know many here who have given up, moved onto basketball, or taken their ball and gone home.  but when you are ranked top 10 in the country and come out and lay two eggs to start the season, your fans are not going to be happy. and when you are told the secondary is the strength of your team, and they give up 800 yards passing in the first two games, i think we all have a little right to be snarky right now.

or as my wife (who also knows everything) told me today "i can't stand to be around you right now.  please let them win next week."

Besides, we couldn't move on to basketball if we tried since apparently the schedule won't be released until 48 hours from the first game. 😑

But agreed on the secondary and defense as a whole underdelivering. I don't think this offense is equipped to win a bunch of shootouts, especially still down a starter at WR, so either the defense improves or this will be a very, very rough ride.

Defense is 1000% my biggest concern right now. The offense has some issues, but they put up 31 which should be enough to put away SEMO. The defense has allowed a ton of yardage, ton of points, and has zero takeaways…ZERO. If this trend continues through the year, I wouldn’t be surprised to see some coaching changes. The players obviously bear responsibility here too but just feels like the two sides aren’t meshing right now.

We’re still doing fan shaming on here?

I can assure you almost all who read this care. Sadly the people that need the lecture don’t care enough to read this board.

I think there is good and bad in getting a large number of transfers at one time. It is a definite plus to fill some positions with experienced help but the down can be players only having a short time to mesh well.
9 games ahead of us and way too much talent not get this season turned around.
I believe coach will rally this team and they will answer the challenge.

If we can compete and, frankly, cover, up in Evanston that would probably be a big help to right the ship. Beyond that the underdog mentality the program had during COVID needs to make a comeback. IF the team and coaches can do that, we can still have a good year. It just happens there’s no margin for error left.

@fraydog agree.  No margin for error starting week 4.

@the-bobber If App State can beat Notre Dame . . . We can head north and beat NW too. Not confident it will happen, but there always is a chance.

Agree with what many have said regarding depth (we have tons of quality players) and time for the new players (we have many) to mesh into one.

Go Dawgs ! ! !

Go Southern Go ! ! !

App State is a different beast than us, but Northwestern isn’t aTm either.

I do wonder what would happen if SIU had been able to have football success on the level of App State though. Most of our conference decisions are based on basketball meaning we will be locked to MVC/MVFC.

NDSU is going to be facing the same decisions as App State as to whether they want to continue to be the big fish in a small pond, especially with the Teutonic shifts happening in collegiate athletics and higher education.

NDSU has 2 problems as I see it.

#1 - Who would take them?

#2 - Is there a conference available that they won't have to go at least 1,000 miles every week for conference games? Same for baseball, basketball and minor sports.

They’re already going far enough when you start counting games outside the Dakotas. The Summit has some pretty long travel dates as well as it is.

D1 FBS football is well on their way to a complete disregard of geography though a western expansion of the MAC with NDSU and eventually SDSU would make a lot of sense. But knowing how this goes the Sun Belt will end up making NDSU an offer because they can go on the road and get big school scalps.
