Great 1st game by former SIU QB. Shocker alert..another good size athletic QB that couldn’t get any serious PT at SIU balls out. If I’m not mistaken, Zebrowski came in at incarnate word and looked really good late in garbage time. Hard to understand during last seasons debacle how this kid didn’t get a shot at some point. Especially during the last half of season.

If you put Baker in D2, he’s surely going to ball out too.  I liked Zebrowski and wish he was still here but not losing sleep over losing him.  I’m hoping we look hard at FBS transfers next year.

@salukiworld How much more leash will they give Nick if that is the case?

Why would any FBS QB transfer come here? Two have over the last 4 years and got ZERO opportunities. Only Saluki fans get excited about a HC way under .500 and a QB barely over .500.

This team hasn’t been good enough over the past couple years not to get more guys in that room a shot at being QB one. Crazy how running backs wide receivers and guys get moved around and get opportunities but not at QB. Can’t imagine it doesn’t concern people that Reed is going to the NFL and ZZ completely dominated in his 1st game.

I’m not a huge defender but I’m not sure SIU is doing much better than Nick Hill at head coach.

@dawg hopefully a short leash. Winning is more important than any individual record. Two talented kids behind Baker. Simmons had a good spring and Lindauer is healthy after being sidelined for two years. Simmons picks SIU over Illinois and Lindauer comes in after two years at Cincinnati. Simmons looks ready and Lindauer got in 2 games as a redshirt freshman at Cincinnati. I’m ready to see either one of these guys early in the year if SIU starts out like last year.

@valleyfb All good points.  I really like Nick, but it seems like all our programs are backsliding.  I’ve actually started following EIEIU (my undergrad) along with SIU (my grad degree) and Texas Tech (my kids alma mater) just to find some sports joy.

Looking forward to seeing what the team rolls out there starting tomorrow. I do think that, despite the impressive stats he has accumulated in his now-lengthy Saluki career, Baker still has something to prove, namely that he can be more efficient and productive in the fourth quarter of close games ... of which there are typically many. And like others, I'd like to see better play along the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, especially from the O-line.

It would be very helpful to get to 2-1 through three weeks, and that almost certainly would involve taking care of the Governors.

@valleyfb not to be that guy stepping down to D2 makes a difference and I am sure Coach Hill is playing who he thinks gives the team te best chance to win if Zebrowski went up a level and had a big game then I can see the argument and one more thing what kind of offense do they run if it is pass first that would also make a difference

@jabman62 is this the same Coach with 36 wins after 7 seasons that you put all your trust in? Zabrowski was smart enough to leave when QB1 was determined in spring ball with no real competition in fall camp. Its comedy at its best.

@valleyfb  can you say we would have more with Zebrowski as Qb also Hill does have 2 playoff appearances not satisfied but this could be a make or break year
