@valleyfb what did the Nicks do to you? You are ready to replace Baker before they play a down this year. Sheesh. Let’s give the guys a couple weeks before you get up on your soapbox.

**hits head on ceiling stepping on vacated soap box** Agreed… every year is different…ish… Nic and Nick have provided a good sample of team expectations … just meh… hope we crush this season but it is what it is… mentioned criticisms seem valid. **tweaks back rolls ankle stepping off**

Dude is a baller.

Division 3 football seems like an excellent fit for this young man, as the competition seems more suitable.  I wish nothing but the best for him.

GO DONKEYS!!!

@tj-mcflys division 2.

Baker has played pretty well so far this year. He has shown he is a good leader. He may have some limitations with his height, but he does possess skills many other quarterbacks do not. He has shown great ability to escape the pocket when a sack seems inevitable, extending and making plays. Unless he regresses greatly in the very near future we do not need to play the game of "what if".

@resaluki-88 who played what if? A former saluki is a baller and ball n.
But since you mentioned it…
5 sacks last game and 1-11 on 3rd down and the 2nd half was pitiful. Game 2 reminded me of why we lost 5 games in the 4th quarter. Thank god the QB from NIU decided to play catch with our DBs.

Sac. State #4, Weber #10, and New Hamp. #11 all lost. Weber got destroyed 40 - 0. #12 SIU is definitely going to move up.

Some bad computer code I reckon.

Weber State just got beat 40 - 0 and they're #7?

Idaho just beat Sac. St. and they're still at #12 while Sac. St. is #10?

SIU is not #4 in the country IMO, and South Dakota is not #14.

In FBS, they have Penn St. #1 and Ohio St #2. Wrong!

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KFVS) - A former Saluki head football coach will be the grand marshal for Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s 2023 homecoming.

Rey Dempsey’s career included coaching for 28 years at various levels, including leading the 1983 Salukis to the NCAA Division 1-AA National Championship title, the first national title for the Dawgs.

According to the university, he earned the Division I-AA Coach of the Year honors that year as well.

Dempsey, 87, was the university’s 14th head football coach and has a 54-37 record, coaching from 1976 to 1983 at SIU. He is a 1996 Saluki Hall of Fame inductee.

The championship team is invited to join Dempsey in being recognized during the homecoming parade and game.

The homecoming parade will travel through the streets of Carbondale, ending on campus. It starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 11.

Tailgating will follow from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saluki Row.

The Salukis will take on South Dakota State at 2 p.m. in Saluki Stadium.
