Weather forecast: 43 and sunny

Massey and Sagarin have them by 7.

Can we play a great game like in the Spring of 21 and kick their butts? Definitely possible I think.

Even if they win, Youngstown on the road doesn’t look like an easy game at all, they might even be underdogs going in.

looking at barely being a .500 team over last two seasons if this late season collapse continues.

If it happens again and we miss the playoffs (seems likely), Hill needs to take a hard look in the mirror and at his staff. I would start with the defense to be honest.

The defense has been like Jekyll and Hyde this season. That can't happen on a team that wants to win consistently. The first couple of games I get to some degree with so many new faces and coordinators, but to have a regression again mid-season...that can't happen. Especially not one that lasts multiple games. Every once in awhile you are going to have a bad quarter or bad half and you need the other side to pick you up, but good teams don't have two stinkers like that in a row.

Hill needs to own some of this too, he's the head coach after all. Why are we struggling down the stretch so much the last two years? It's not like we've had a murderer's row schedule. Last year was UNI, Mo St., Ind St., and YSU. This year the last 5 will be WIU, USD, UNI, NDSU, and YSU. Last year we went 1-3 with a blowout loss the last week of the season and this year we are sitting at 1-2 staring down our toughest game of that stretch. We could very easily go 1-4. That's just unacceptable at this point with a veteran team and all this talent. Is it the late bye week, poor game plans, players getting complacent, etc? I'll be the first to admit it's not an easy thing to identify and is likely not just one specific thing, but that's what you get paid to do.

I really hope they turn it on again, win out, and sneak in to the playoffs, but at this point in the rebuild it's pretty disheartening to be in this position yet again.

I can throw my two cents in and speculate a little.  The weak yearly finishes might be to a roster that's never too deep.  As the 1's get nicked up, the quality of the 2's is too big a drop off.  Of course there will always be a drop off.  That's why they are starters and backups.  Now having said that, most teams have this problem.  Only 63 schollies compared to the 85 at FBS.  When you get to the level of NDSU, SDSU, et al, then the drop from the 1's to the 2's is not as great.

I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!

I have a very good feeling about this game. This group of athletes and coaches really seem to do good things when their backs are against the wall. Nobody gave them a chance vs The Northwestern Mildcats except for that Mr. Bobber the physic. I look forward to his prediction for this game on Saturday.

GO DAWGS!!!

I also have a good feeling about this game. The team has to be disappointed with the last two games, and NDSU is not as overpowering as they were a few years ago. Also, they won't have the "Dome of Awfulness" advantage.

If Hartrup is going to play this year as has been suggested, you’d think he’d be out there today.

SIU is going to need big performances on both sides of the ball.  We'll see if this team has given up on the season or plans on salvaging what has been a roller coaster ride of a season.  Unfortunately, I agree with comments that this type of performance is consistent with the Nick Hill era.  Very inconsistent from one game to the next.  They have some good talent, but can't seem to put it together on a game in, game out basis....etc.  Nick has really done a nice job of recruiting and has shown the ability to win at a high level, BUT he has got to find a way to keep his teams focused.

Beat NDSU today....and let's see if there's still a chance at the playoffs.  Lose and SIU is playing out the string for some level of respectability.

C'mon Dawgs, SHOW UP TODAY!  Let's Go!!
