Only 2 concession stands open for the 10,000 fans tonight. Over an hour wait in every line. More fallout from the AD turmoil?
I’ve never seen concession lines here like tonight, and I’m an old fart. 40-50 people in each line. That was a couple minutes before halftime.
Combination of not being able to get enough people to want to work and the chancellor not letting them spend money to hire students.
Congrats to the dawgs on a blowout victory!! I know we were hoping for a larger crowd but 7,300 ain’t bad for a non-scholly opponent. I would expect a near sellout next weekend for Family Weekend against ISU.
Only 7330 in attendance. Sad! Top 10 FCS program that took KSU to the wire and fans reward the players with a half empty stadium.

I was there and the students showed up but not much of anyone else. Was really the opposite of what it usually is. As I said, could be people weary of COVID. Southern Illinois has 0 ICU beds open right now. Wondering how basketball attendance is affected, I know I personally am probably not doing basketball games until at least conference play.

No worries of covid at Saluki stadium last night. You could basically pick your seat. If the big stadiums can have 100,000 fans surely 10,000 SIU fans can show up on a Saturday night in Carbondale.

Yeah Saluki Stadium is pretty COVID safe, even the concourses are open air. Helps that people were social distancing because of the lack of non-students I guess. Hopefully the students keep showing because others will come if the team keeps winning.
It’s going to take as many years to get the fans back with good teams, as it did to lose them with bad teams.

I hope you're right, but I doubt it. There just doesn't seem to be much interest around here. I don't know what SIU has to do to get 10,000+ fans at a game. We definitely have a team good enough for it, but I just can't see it actually happening. I sincerely hope that I am very wrong though.

Agree! Just wish some of the locals would realize this is not the SIU of the past several years. This team built some momentum last season and it’s carried over big time. Really good returning players and brought in some high caliber FBS transfers that see what the Dawgs and Hill are doing. I don’t see a let up anytime soon. 10,000 fans at home games could really help get some much needed money flowing. Players and staff deserve it.
Whoever is in charge of concessions needs to step up their game. Lots of money left on the table from fans getting tired of standing in lines. I personally walked away from a line twice. Easily would have dropped $50 plus on food and beers.

I said in a previous post that it's a combination of not being able to get enough workers (same problem that every single restaurant has in Southern Illinois) and the Chancellor not allowing them to spend money to hire more student workers. Groups, clubs, and nonprofits can volunteer but then half the time they don't even show up and you have to close the concession stand they're supposed to work because it's game time and they didn't notify anyone. Athletics currently has an incentive going on where you can volunteer and earn points towards merchandise and tickets.
Applefest, community picnics, weddings (in our case)...a lot of other obligations going on. (How many season tickets not used?)

Salukis move up a notch to #7 after the DU blowout.
March on triumphantly!

Then the chancellor needs to wake up. The little bit of money to hire a few more workers would have paid off with more business. I watched no less than 10 people walk away each time in my two attempts to get food and beer. My group had 6 couples and 8 kids. All wanted food and beer/sodas. We got NOTHING!! That was easily $600 plus they missed out on. I watched several people come back to their seats from the concessions saying they are done waiting in line. We aren’t talking about a few dollars. I’m guessing this cost the university a few thousand dollars.
