HeroSports.com has their preseason top 25 poll out. (1) North Dakota State, (2) South Dakota State, (3) Northern Iowa, (12) Illinois State, (22) Southern Illinois: "SIU was one of the first teams left out of the 2019 playoff bracket. That should provide plenty of fuel this offseason. The Salukis turned things around defensively last year, which was key to go along with an always-talented offense." We should break the top 20 this year. Maybe PLAYOFFs baby!!!

The program desperately needs to make the playoffs and become a consistent playoff team if SIU ever has any hope of generating more interest and getting students onboard.

For whatever reason getting Saluki football to be consistently competitive, a playoff team, and a place to be for local residents and students has always been an uphill climb. That being said, SIU has the facilities to get it done. The next step is building a consistent winner.
